      Entretien

I applied in March '19, I was contacted soon after but my phone screening was scheduled 2 weeks out in April, oddly. There was an initial phone screen with the in-house recruiter. Then I was give 4x mock support emails to answer over the weekend. These 4x questions do all have answers to them, do not believe that they only wanna see how you personally answer questions and that an answer is not important, a correct answer is always important. I was told I did great in this task and then I had an interview with a team manager from San Francisco. This was a fun interview and I got on really well with the manager, standard questions, like how do you feel you work in a team, three words to describe yourself, why do you wanna work in Asana etc. Unfortunately, two weeks later I received a sincere email from the recruiter that said they had not realized they were as far in the recruitment stages with some other candidates as she thought and they had to make a decision and they proceeded with the candidates that were a stage ahead but she will definitely contact me again when this role becomes available as I performed well. Jump to September and I noticed the same role is open again so I emailed the recruiter and after a week she scheduled the final stage which was an onsite interview with 5 people. I was really grateful for this exceptional turnaround from the recruiter. For the interview I was dressed in jeans, white shirt, blazer and was clean cut and shaven. I would recommend that this is too overdressed for the interview as the first manager I met had long hair and a nose ring, everyone else was pretty casual so I felt like I did not fit in -although how else should one dress for an interview. Each person asked me the same question - describe yourself in three words, it was beginning to be funny. The last person forgot that he asked me this at the start and asked me again at the end. And also what three qualities do you look for in colleagues. In the job description they note the three words they are looking for: Curious, Empathetic, Problem Solver. So I simply repeated myself each time. Between the interviews I had to answer a few mock email questions again in 15 mins. I was tipped that I should not waste time looking for answers but to make up an answer - they were looking for your approach and style more so than the answer. And then I had to write a 500 word essay on something I was passionate about. I recommend you practice this beforehand. Everyone was really nice and friendly and I had a blast there. However, the culture and place is very almost over the top 'millennial', like they sign off their emails with their preferred pronouns and I've never seen an office manager do an interview with long hair and a nose-ring or wearing a football jersey. I say this because it may not be everyone's preference. Sadly, I did not get a gift basket or lunch as others have written about. It was very much one interview and test after the other without any breaks. At the end, another recruiter told me that the head recruiter is out sick and will contact me with a decision on Thursday or Friday. I interviewed on Tuesday. Three weeks on and I have not heard back yet. After two weeks I noticed they published an ad for the same position I applied for, I hazard a guess that I did not get the role! But still - it's poor form for me to find out this way, without being told via phone or email. Especially after they got their wires crossed back in April also.

      Entretien

The interview process was very straightforward. I met with the recruiter for a 30-minute phone call, then about a week later I met with the hiring manager for a 30-minute phone call. After these two calls, I was asked to complete a writing assignment showing how I would respond to customers. Moving forward, I met with the recruiter again to go over feedback regarding the writing assignment and the hiring manager's feedback. During this call, I was invited to the last stage of the hiring process, which would be four 30-minute interviews with members of the User Operations team. After these interviews, I was asked to complete a writing assignment where I could write about anything I was passionate about for 15 minutes. Once the writing assignment was done, the hiring manager met with me to see if I had any last questions, let me know what I could expect within the next week, and thanked me for my time. Prior to the last stage of the interview, the recruiter met with me to go over the questions the interviewers would ask me. The recruiter was very communicative with me, providing me with a lot of positive feedback, keeping me up to date on the interview process, and helping answer any questions that I may have. During the interviews, it felt like a very comfortable process. Everyone was kind and understanding in making sure I understood their questions and what I should expect by working at Asana.

It's a long, multi-stage process including a series of interviews with recruiter and hiring manager and team, along with multiple writing exercises. It takes many weeks but is very organized and well implemented and communication is thorough.

The interview with Asana was a great experience overall. I met with a panel of people one after another and I could tell from the start that the interview was very well organized and thought out as not one interviewer repeated any question.
