      Candidature

J'ai postulé en ligne. Le processus a pris 6 mois. J'ai passé un entretien chez Aptiv (Boston, MA) en nov. 2017

      Entretien

Overall the process was really mishandled and disappointing; strung out too long, poor communication, lack of communication about what job I was applying for, and it seems the company doesn't really know what they want in a candidate. Aug 2017 I applied to the VP of Engineering role Sept 2017 I had a phone screen with the talent recruiter; fairly standard. Expectations of the phone screen were laid out from the beginning, which was nice. However, I was not notified until the end of the interview (after I had already given salary expectation for the original job) that I was being considered for a different job, System Performance Engineer. I was asked to take a look at the job description and let the recruiter know if I was still interested. While this new position was lower in the organization, it did fit my skill set so I agreed to continue to explore the opportunity. Oct 2017 scheduled phone interview with Director of Engineering who indicated I was being considered for both the System Performance role and another role not yet posted, Vehicle Systems Engineer. Otherwise standard phone interview with behavioral questions. Two weeks after phone interview was sent an email mistakenly to another candidate about scheduling an on-site interview. Then sent an email to schedule an on-site interview for me. Upon scheduling the interview, I was sent a preparation email to describe what the expectations were for the on-site interview including developing a presentation; the details also included information regarding yet another role that I had not heard of, however this turned out to be another mistake. I get email mistakes happen but there doesn't seem to be a lot of discipline in ensuring candidates are receiving the right info. Nov 2017 had on-site interview (the facility is in a nice part of Southie). Was required to present a 15 minute presentation on myself to the interview team about my background, skills, and why I want to join. Followed by 4 one on one interviews. Note that the email detailing the day indicated the interview would be for both the System Performance and Vehicle Systems Engineer roles, however upon arrival I discovered it was only for the Vehicle Systems Engineer role. The one on ones were standard mix of behavioral and technical, including a little white board exercise. One interviewers took a photo of the white board exercise we had done, which made me a bit uncomfortable as if I was providing consulting advice rather than interviewing for a position. On a positive note, I got to see the facility and product, which was pretty neat. When communicating directly with the talent recruiter, he was transparent about what to expect continuing the process, which was great. Unfortunately it seems the company isn't great about meeting their own expectations. I was told I should hear back about the role before Thanksgiving (about two weeks). Almost 4 weeks later, after the Thanksgiving holiday (just before December), I was emailed they were actively continuing to interview candidates, but I was one of the standouts for the role, and that I would hear before the end of the year. Jan 2018 I followed up with the talent recruiter to ask status update and never heard back. Feb 2018 I got an automated email survey asking how the interview process was, yet still no personal response about outcome. Was a waste of my time; at the very least the recruiter could have reached out when a decision was made to inform me I was not chosen. On a positive note, the company seems to have a good culture for their employees, benefits typical of a tech company, and working on interesting technology; each interview spoke highly and earnestly about their role and why they work for the company. Unfortunately my interview experience is a dark cloud over that.
