I first met an AMT recruiter at a local job fair while I was in college (studying mechanical engineering). The first step I took was simply giving them a resume.
A few days after, I received a phone call. We pretty much just had a conversation about my education and what AMT was about, it wasn't until halfway through that I realized it was an interview. The HR member that called me was very nice and pleasant to talk to.
A few days after the very casual phone interview, I received an invitation to come out to the office for a day to interview there. There, I did a one-hour interview with each of the 5 engineering departments (Mechanical, Simulation, General Industries, Controls, and Robot Programming). Some of them asked specific questions about my skills or even gave me test questions, while others just had a conversation to get to know me. At the end of the day, I was asked which departments I was interested in. This was neat because AMT wanted to make sure to serve my interests instead of just their own.
A week after that, I was offered a job in the Robot Programming group. I thought this was strange since I didn't know much about robots or programming, but they were looking for personality traits and a potential to learn, rather than raw education.
