      Entretien

I applied online for the store in my area. A couple of days later I received an email inviting me to a hiring seminar. The email was generic and I assumed most people who applied got this email. My hiring seminar had about 10 people in it. Dress ranged from business casual to jeans and t-shirt (me). We were cheered into the store by ten or so apple employees, this caught me off guard as it was very early in the morning. We were sat at a center table and a specialist talked to us about apple retail and specific roles within the store. We were also shown several videos about the apple philosophy. After that we were broken into groups and told to act out a situation in which an apple product might be useful, each team was given a prop. All-in-all the process took two hours. We were told we would hear back in a week or so whether or not they were interested. My advice is to answer questions and work well with your teammates. I received a call a week later asking me to come in for another group interview. This time the group was much smaller, only three other people. We sat at a table in the malls dunkin donuts The interview was conducted by a store leader who asked questions about apple products and our experiences with them. There wasn't too much product knowledge needed here. My group members were apple fanboys trying to name as many apple products/services as they could . None got through. Apple is very much about solutions rather than the leanest meanest hardware. Afterwards I was told a regional manager was coming later that week and asked me if I wanted to meet with him. Of course I said yes. My advice would be to think about how apple has simplified your life (realistically it does in a lot of ways) rather than memorizing all the applications included in iWork. The next interview was 2:1 with the regional manager and the general manager of the store, again at dunkin donuts. The interview was a lot more relaxed than I anticipated given the status of the two, they even bought my coffee which was pretty cool. The questioning was similar to the group interview, "Why apple?", "How has apple affected your life?", ect. They explained a little more about the position I was applying for and asked how my previous experience would factor into the role. They tested some product knowledge (Features of snow leopard, advantages of mac air, ect.) as well as basic computer knowledge (HD vs. RAM, what's so special about SSD). Fairly simple in my opinion. I get the impression that at this point you are basically in, I believe the hiring protocol is that a regional manager has to give a thumbs up to all new hires. Just stay calm and be yourself. A couple of days later I got an email for a background check and a week later I got a call offering me a position. General advice- In my opinion apple is looking for "middle of the road" people, not socially awkward mutes, but also not crazed apple fanboys that are going to cram product down a customers throat. Unlike most retailers apple really does practice what it preaches, getting the customer what they need. They want specialists that are socially capable enough to interact with a customer and find out what they need, while also avoiding individuals that only regurgitate the specs on the newest iMac. Also be prepared to wait a while, the interview process took a long time.
