I was approached by a recruiter for a short-term contract position. I did an assessment, which took about 2 hours, met team members and was finally offered the position on a Friday afternoon. On Monday when they were supposed to send over the contract for me to sign, they suddenly backed out, I was told a member of senior leadership said the existing team members could handle the workload and they didn't need me. They reached out a month later to have me interview for a full-time position, albeit not a manager position and at a salary much lower than the contract rate. I liked them enough to do another assessment, talked to two more team members, and then was told that I had too much management experience for the position and they were going to pass. Absolutely floored that they would waste my time twice.
