      Entretien

I received a phone call from the MD who invited me to an interview. He was very friendly during the call so I had high hopes. However, my interview was a truly horrific experience. The MD was extremely rude; he constantly interrupted me as I answered his questions and even got up several times to change the thermostat. I did not feel like I was listened to as he repeatedly cut me off. I was only in the meeting for less than ten minutes and the majority of the time was spent listening to him monologue about why I didn't get the job so I felt like I didn't even get a chance to defend myself. It was such a shame as I had done so much preparation and I felt so humiliated that I didn't get to show this. If I was a candidate or client of his and was treated like that, I would've looked elsewhere for business. I left distraught and even cried on the train home since he was so unnecessarily harsh but now I am glad I didn't get the job since I now know that I have avoided working in a hostile environment.

Many thanks for taking time to submit your review. My apologies for having to adjust the temperature in the meeting room twice however the first time I did so it didn't work properly. I am sure this isn't the biggest of your gripes. We try to give everyone sufficient time to prove they may be right for our business or for the wider industry however we also try to ask questions early on in the interview that help us ascertain quickly whether or not someone will be right for the industry or whether , as in your case, they have little direction and are just chancing their arm. In respect of my "monologue" I was simply trying to use the time constructively to explain not just why you were not right for Accountancy Action but moreover why I didn't feel you were right for recruitment. I do this often as whilst it can be awkward rejecting someone face to face I believe it helps the candidate better than an impersonal email. With a website like Glassdoor every rejected candidate is able to have their say and I am sorry you feel the way you do however I can assure you and any one else applying that the environment in our business is very far from hostile.

The MD sounds very nice on the phone and I was asked for an interview. I attended the interview and the MD turned out to be extremely rude and arrogant and I was made to feel uncomfortable and looked down on. His whole manner was awful and he has a very poor interviewing process in which he must get a kick out of making young girls feel humiliated and very small. I cried when I left this interview and he has knocked my confidence and made me feel like I am not good enough for anything. He tries to catch you out by putting you on the spot and knocking your confidence and then smirks at you while you're trying to sell yourself.

Thank you for your review of our business and the interview style of our MD. I am sorry that his style made you feel humiliated and "very small" and I am sure this wasn't his intention. Recruitment is a very tough industry. Trainees will take knock backs from both candidates and clients and need to be able to show resilience. Often we try to find a way to discover this during the interview process and perhaps this is what Marc was doing. We are sorry you found the experience overwhelming and we wish you the very best in your search for a new role.
