J'ai postulé via la recommandation d'un employé. Le processus a pris 3 mois. J'ai passé un entretien chez 89up en janv. 2023

      Entretien

Initial phone call on 3rd November, told they wanted to “move fast”. I then waited 2 weeks for a tech test that had been written in 2018, it was highly unclear and specified a need to display knowledge of a multitude of technologies that had not been previously mentioned (but no tests as that isn't needed in the job apparently). I immediately emailed and said I did not think I was suitable for the position as our expectations do not match. They asked what they could do as "they really wanted to make this work". It was agreed (after they initially suggested they pay me to do the full exercise) that I spend 1-3 hours on it and see how far I got. I took a while to return it due to personal reasons, of which they were understanding. I returned a GitHub hosted solution on 9th January that I specified was an MVP and would be happy to talk it through with anyone to explain my choices (as is typical). After hearing nothing, on 18th Jan I asked for an update and was told they were waiting for feedback on the exercise (despite multiple unique clones and views of the repo in the first 2 weeks after I returned the solution). On 27th January after hearing nothing, I asked if they were withdrawing from the process. I was once again told they were waiting for feedback. I responded that I was now looking for other jobs for financial reasons and may withdraw if something else came up quicker. On the 22nd of February, I asked for an update and was told they were no longer looking for a python developer.

      Questions d'entretien [1]

      Question 1

Demonstrate knowledge of Python & Flask, along with supplemental knowledge of API’s, GET & POST requests and Linux DevOps techniques. Also demonstrate knowledge of Docker (and optionally Docker-swarm), as well as which supplemental services may be required to support such a site – e.g. SQL database, in-memory key/value store, message-queues or webservers in proxy roles. The site will also have a basic level of hardening against attack using known Linux tools and systems, such as UFW, fail2ban, and ssh configuration tightened ## Out of Scope * Site design aesthetics – these will generally be provided by 89up’s design team, and a functional site is all that is required. That being said, any positive use of design aesthetics, e.g. CSS frameworks will be looked upon favourably. * Unit tests, integration tests or functional tests – it is assumed that due to the testing nature of this site, along with the time constraints and other work constraints, it will be impractical to implement a testing suite * Version control (git) – Again, as this is an experimental or testing site, version control is not assumed, but if used, may be examined, and will be favourably regarded. * Code comments – again, due to time and other constraints in this test, clean code comments are not required. * Scaling is not considered part of the test

Thank you for your review I am sorry that you feel you had a bad experience applying for a role at 89up, I can only apologize for this. However, we have looked through all correspondence between yourself and our Head of People and feel this is an unfair review. I do think there were some blockers during this process, due to unforeseen delays on both our parts which were out of both of our controls. We note your comments and will take them on board. 89up has not received negative reviews over the past 3 years so this is an exceptionally unusual place to be. I wish you well in your job search 89up
