Started out normal enough. In hindsight, there were a lot of oddities that I overlooked.
Here is a general rundown of how it went:
-- had an initial screening via online chat (found out later that was handled by the CEO)
-- had a video interview 2-3 days later that was more of a phone screen (handled by the same person as the online chat screen) During this interview, the topic of company provided equipment was discussed as the role was 100% remote. Answer was that a laptop could be provided if needed (overall, minimal discussion on the subject)
-- had a video interview 2 days later with the hiring manager. During this interview, I found out this was the last step (I had to ask). At the end I was asked for references.
-- 4-5 hours after last interview was completed I got an offer (pay was on the low end)
-- Negotiations began regarding the offer (all through CEO only). Higher pay was denied, but could be "fast tracked" based on performance. Additional PTO was denied. In short, just about ZERO concessions on the company side.
-- accepted offer and began discussing equipment for remote work (all through CEO only). At first, company asked if I had my own and thus could start working. Until I informed company it was not feasible to use my own equipment long term, I was not informed of the process for getting any. Process turned out to be sending an amazon link.
-- Due to how conversation was going, I reached out to hiring manager twice and got no response.
-- Conversation ended as the company did not want to provide more than basic laptop and ended up rescinding offer.
Long story short: interview if you wish as the company seems to have a good online reputation. However, ask a lot of questions and fully clarify everything before you end the last round of interviewing.
