      Avantages

      I get recognition as an elite, experienced editor with one of the longest-standing online editing companies. The company provided additional editorial training, and I achieved certification as a developmental editor. Best of all, I am supported by client account managers who provide answer calls for customer service, so I get to focus on just editing.

      Inconvénients

      Providing samples for clients requires that I have to prove myself again and again as an editor. (I get a bonus for this work, but it is honestly not huge financially.) Also, I work online which can be lonely.

      Avantages

      Plenty of work to go around, some interesting clients.

      Inconvénients

      Pay inadequate for what's expected of editors, management direct communication with editors tends to have an extremely negative/punishing tone. Unhelpful to editors. Too much emphasis on speed rather than quality.

      Avantages

      Ability to work remotely and low bar for entry

      Inconvénients

      Editors receive a minority of what clients pay, which brings the hourly rate down near minimum wage unless editors rush through projects and deliver subpar work.
