Avantages

Good way to build experience if you're pursuing a teaching career. Great way to make yourself a familiar face within a district if you commit yourself to work at the same district everyday. You might even get offered a position at a school if you have the certifications. It's also a great learning experience. Working in different schools and grades will help you decide what kind of teacher you wish to be. If you are a college student, it's a good job because you make your own schedule and the hours are short. The most rewarding outcome of being a source4teachers employee for me was the fact that I got to work at my childhood schools where I grew up. I got to work with my old teachers and got to receive great career advice from them. I also became a familiar face. The children recognized me everywhere I went; at the mall, the supermarket, etc, children walk up to me to say hello. I eventually got a permanent position through MissionOne as an autistic paraprofessional and I love the job so much. I look forward to working everyday.

Inconvénients

Source4teachers and MissionOne employees have a bad reputation. You will get discriminated by the school staff... As a source4teachers substitute, everytime I walked into a school I felt like I was not trusted. I had staff check up on me often. I felt like my every move was observed and judged... I also worked a permanent position for missionone as a paraprofessional for autistic children. There was another para working with me, except she was a district employee. Me, as a MissionOne employee got treated differently. The teacher and the other para would whisper things about the job to each other because I guess they thought a MissionOne employee isn't worthy of knowing the insiders. I also am not as trusted as the district employee. One referred to us as "you MissionOne folks." On a side note, the medical benefits are not beneficial in any way. You don't have sick days, you don't have paid vacation. Zero benefits.

Avantages

The corporate support and recruitment team are excellent; they are professional and highly responsive. The onboarding and training process was comprehensive and genuinely prepared me for the realities of substitute teaching. The role offers a great deal of flexibility, opportunities to engage with the local population, and a clear pipeline for those seeking long-term subbing positions or a path toward a full-time teaching career. It is an excellent environment for networking within the education sector.

Inconvénients

The day-to-day experience is heavily dependent on the specific district and school culture, which can vary significantly. Some districts provide free lunch, others don’t. Unfortunately, there is often a lack of respect at the school level; substitute staff are sometimes treated as expendable rather than as valued members of the team. There is a lack of job security, as pre-booked assignments are frequently canceled on short notice to accommodate other preferred substitutes. Subs have to work 4 days a month and it’s hard to meet when people are constantly being dropped from jobs. Additionally, the compensation is extremely low, and the benefits package is insufficient, making it difficult to rely on this position as a primary source of income.
