    Avantages

REA has a great culture and invests a lot of time and money into it's people. During my time there I was looked after very well. In terms of the challenge of the role, it is a fast moving company and your ability to achieve is huge! You are given the latest tech to work with and a lot of autonomy.

    Inconvénients

Being in the middle management tier, you feel a lot of pain when it comes to politics between departments. If you aren't going to be managing cross department don't worry about it. Due to the autonomy teams have, this often leads to them not doing the best thing for the company and it is difficult to question them on it and no one will.

    Conseils à la direction

I'm pretty sure you will shake the company up soon and restructure things. My advice would be to hold every project owner to account on their deliverables. So often I saw a projects promised deliverables come nowhere near. No need for a full PMO but at least some accountability.

    Avantages

Access to the latest technology to do your job. Some good people. Casual attire.

    Inconvénients

Despite a lot of talk for the need to retain employees, recognize success, and remuneration, this does not occur and instead these opportunities are rewarded based on cliqueyness and popularity with senior management rather than skill and ability. The perks are well known externally, but are difficult to access as you're often too busy or your manager won't approve your absence to take part, and they seem to be... used to make up for the lack of remuneration.

    Conseils à la direction

There is currently a lot of unrest and unhappiness within REA amongst lower level employees.

    Avantages

Great work life balance! Lots of perks (food, celebrations, flexible hours, yoga classes, in-house massage, bring your dog to work, pay by donation baristas) Collaborative and intelligent colleagues. Cross-functional teams. Opportunity to generate ideas and make things happen for all roles types and all experience levels. Hack days for employees to work on ideas they are passionate about. Volunteering... opportunities. Diversity and cultural values. Guilds and interest groups to help grow employees. Chances for internal role changes. Rituals that help teams self-manage. (retros, stand ups, planning) Most employees are passionate about what they do and committed to learn and self-improve. Chances to explore all aspects of design including: research, motion, interaction, writing, visual design. Work on products that Impact at the national level (millions of users!). Environment that encourages failing fast and learning. Women in tech and mentorship programs.

    Dérouler

    Inconvénients

Lack of communication and discoverability of projects across the business means duplication of work and sometimes create missed opportunities. (true of any enterprise level org though) Design practice is growing and improving, but is less mature than expected considering the maturity of products. Processes may not always be clear upfront, but you are given the opportunity to create and experiment with your own... methods.

    Conseils à la direction

Keep doing what you are doing. The culture and values of the company are the true strength of the company. You empower and grow your people, and in turn, they are committed to help grow the company.

    Avantages

Chill out, good people, good culture Attend guilds and really good FrontEnd work

    Inconvénients

Too much legacy and ruby code. Only few projects and services are in Scala. No time to refactor or upgrade. More focus on SEO and AB testing. Values a smooth talker than a hard worker. Too many incompetent people calling shots. Your technical skills and recommendations are not heard as its not their idea. Unless you are the management's best bud, you are treated as a slave. Claims to be technology advocate, still... haven't realised that they missed the bus. Highly diplomatic and political people that you sometime feels like you are in white house. Can't complain about anything, if you complain, its because of your fault. Seniors always calls the short and even if it is BS, DL and PM will allow that as their technical skills are as good as Canada's cricket team. If you want to get something done, you have to smooth talk to every one in the team very diplomatically and get it approved from everyone in a manner everyone should think that its their idea. Luckily we don't have any one's life at stake. If we are planning a pregnancy, they will still be in a meeting room on when the kid is graduating. In short, if you are technically sound and wants to learn, get the hell away. If you are incompetent and wants to just chill from meetings to meeting, you will feel like home.

    Conseils à la direction

Don't waste resources and money on talking about what to do rather than doing it. There is not much to loose at this point so get some action rather than talking about action. There might be people who are not that into social talks and want to do some productive work, as a part of diversity accept them too. Always remember than your sales team is not selling water from a tap, its a product which was built buy a... group of technical people, who might not be a social person, but have an IQ which is more than all of the sales people combined.
