Large group time: Sing good morning songs. Introduce a gross motor skills activity: exercising routine, stretching and jumping. Introduce the day of the week, the month, today’s date, and the current year. Creative Curriculum Study: ex. Balls, music, insects, trees, reduce, reuse, recycle. During large group time, children will use their words to talk about the study. Teaching Strategies: Introduce the Question of the Day? Example: Children will respond their answer in one word or in a sentence. Read stories to the children based on the creative curriculum study. Dictation: During large group time, each child draws a picture; and the children use their words to verbally describe about what they drew. I dictate with they say onto their paper. During large group time, I would dictate what each child said based on the Question of the Day? Before the children go into their small groups, Introduce the child’s name on a strip of card. Have the child recognize their name on the card and the letter sound of their name. Small group/one-on-one: Intentional Teaching Cards: Numbers, Letters, Shapes, Counting and Storytelling Example: The number, letter or the shape of the week. Do an activity with the children involving numbers. Free Choice Time: Young children playing with play-doh. The child will describe the texture of the play-doh, the color, shape, squishiness and how they use the pay-doh by rolling, molding and sculpting. Example of children making the play-doh and what they build by using it. They can practice making their name or make a letter using play-doh.
