Position Summary
The Community Engagement Coordinator is responsible for strengthening communication, participation, and engagement between Boston Bar First Nation, its members, leadership, staff, and external stakeholders. The Coordinator serves as the lead organizer for community meetings, events, consultations, workshops, forums, cultural gatherings, and engagement initiatives. This role ensures that BBFN events and engagement activities are well-planned, community-centered, culturally respectful, and aligned with organizational priorities. The successful candidate will build relationships, coordinate outreach efforts, increase community participation, and ensure members have meaningful opportunities to stay informed and provide input on matters affecting the Nation.
Key ResponsibilitiesCommunity Engagement
- Develop and implement community engagement strategies and initiatives.
- Coordinate community consultations, information sessions, workshops, open houses, and public meetings.
- Foster positive relationships with members, Elders, youth, staff, leadership, partners, and stakeholders.
- Conduct outreach activities to encourage community participation and feedback.
- Support engagement initiatives related to governance, housing, health, education, lands, culture, and community development.
- Ensure community concerns, perspectives, and feedback are documented and communicated appropriately.
Event Coordination
- Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of BBFN events from start to finish.
- Coordinate in-person, virtual, and hybrid events.
- Manage event logistics including venue bookings, catering, technology, supplies, transportation, accommodations, registrations, and setup requirements.
- Coordinate Longhouse events and community gatherings.
- Develop event work plans, schedules, timelines, and checklists.
- Ensure all event logistics are completed on time and within budget.
Communications & Outreach
- Maintain BBFN's annual community engagement and events calendar.
- Prepare and coordinate event notices, agendas, invitations, newsletters, social media content, posters, and community announcements.
- Work collaboratively with communications staff and departments to promote participation and awareness.
- Coordinate registration, attendance tracking, and participant communications.
- Ensure timely and accurate distribution of information to members and stakeholders.
Cultural & Community-Centered Planning
- Ensure engagement activities and events are conducted in a culturally respectful and inclusive manner.
- Coordinate with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and community representatives where appropriate.
- Support traditional protocols and practices during community gatherings and events.
- Promote culturally safe environments that encourage participation from all community members.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Maintain records of events, attendance, engagement activities, and feedback.
- Prepare event summaries, participation reports, and recommendations.
- Assist with budget tracking and event-related expenditures.
- Support grant-funded engagement initiatives and reporting requirements.
- Maintain organized event files and documentation.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Degree in Communications, Public Administration, Indigenous Studies, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience in community engagement, event coordination, stakeholder relations, communications, or a related role.
- Experience working with First Nations communities, Indigenous organizations, or Indigenous governments is mandatory.
- Strong project management and organizational abilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Zoom, Teams, social media platforms, and online engagement tools.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments.
- Regular office environment with frequent community-based activities.
- Evening and weekend work required to support community events and engagement activities.
- Occasional travel may be required.
- Ability to assist with event setup and coordination activities.
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence.
- Reliable transportation.
- Drug and Alcohol Testing may be required in accordance with BBFN policy, operational requirements, or the nature of the position.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of Nlaka’pamux culture, traditions, and protocols.
- Experience facilitating community meetings and engagement sessions.
- Experience working in a First Nations government environment.

Success in this position will be demonstrated through increased community participation, well-executed events, meaningful engagement opportunities, strong stakeholder relationships, and effective communication between BBFN and its members.
