Responsibilities:

• Collect and analyze samples of raw materials, intermediate products, and finished asphalt to assess quality and compliance with specifications.
• Perform density testing using a nuclear/electronic density gauge to verify in-place compaction meets project and specification requirements. Record, report, and communicate results in real time to paving crews and project managers.
• Operate, maintain, and calibrate laboratory and field testing equipment to guarantee accurate and reliable results.
• Accurately record test results, prepare detailed reports, and communicate findings to project managers and relevant stakeholders.
• Ensure all testing and quality control procedures comply with ODOT, City of Columbus, and other relevant industry standards and regulations.
• Work closely with plant personnel and paving crews to address quality issues, provide technical support, and implement corrective actions as needed.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Prior experience in asphalt quality control, construction materials testing, or a related area is preferred but not required.
• Willingness to obtain relevant certifications such as ODOT Level 2/3 Asphalt Technician, and Nuclear Gauge Safety Training.
• Ability to conduct standard laboratory and field tests for asphalt materials, including density testing, aggregate gradation, asphalt binder content, and volumetrics.
• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 70 pounds, working outdoors in varying weather conditions, and standing for extended periods.
• Clean driving record is required.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey information to team members, clients, and regulatory agencies.
• Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in all testing and reporting activities.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $28.00 - $34.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 – 60 per week
