We're hiring! Our team at Juniper House is seeking a part-time Children's Outreach Worker to develop and deliver age-appropriate educational programs for children and young adults throughout the tri-county region. In this community-focused role, you will provide public education on healthy relationships, self-esteem, bullying, and the impacts of domestic violence, while building strong partnerships with schools, community organizations, and service providers. Specific responsibilities include:

Programming

• Develop age-appropriate community education programs to be offered within public education settings including the Tri-County Regional School Board, CSAP, and other community venues as available.
• Deliver programs within educational and community settings.
• Create educational materials that can be used within the organization and shared with community partners, agencies, and through social media.

Public Relations

• Coordinate relations and communications among community education programs, agencies, and the general public.
• Work collaboratively with service providers to facilitate and deliver programs.
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with community partners and stakeholders.

Community Education & Awareness

• Promote awareness of healthy relationships, bullying prevention, self-esteem, and the impacts of domestic violence on children and youth.
• Support the delivery of public education initiatives throughout the tri-county region.
• Represent Juniper House in educational and community settings.

Professional Development

• Maintain current knowledge regarding issues relating to domestic violence and its effects on children, healthy relationships, bullying, and self-esteem.
• Stay informed about relevant community resources, legislation, and best practices.
• Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities as required.

• Bachelor's degree or diploma in social work, psychology, sociology, education, counselling, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Thorough understanding of violence against women, community resources, legislation, government policies relating to violence against women and children, and the cycle of violence.
• Strong public speaking and communication skills.
• Comfortability delivering presentations to a variety of stakeholders with diverse ages, abilities, and levels of understanding.
• Ability to work effectively within communities, groups, and with community partners.
• Ability to communicate in French is an asset.
• Excellent computer skills.
• Highly motivated, responsible, able to take initiative, and able to work independently.
• Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle.

Juniper House was established in 1985 to provide a safe refuge for women and their children who have experienced abuse. We maintain a 15-bed shelter, 24-hour crisis line. Women in Yarmouth, Digby, and Shelburne Counties can receive counseling, programs, advocacy, referrals, and outreach services.

We also provide programs in the community aimed at preventing violence and abuse. We talk with women so that they might overcome their fears, receive information and support. They do not have to go through their situation alone and will be safe and assured in making decisions and leaving their abusive situation.

Compensation & Employment Terms

• $25.20 - $29.67 / hour
• Part-time position based in the Municipality of Shelburne covering the tri-county area.
• 24 hours per week (Three 8-hour days)
• Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
• Position funded through March 2029 based on current grant funding.
