StackState is trying to do something in the monitoring / observability / AIOps market that is different from other vendors. The bet is that understanding how the dependencies between components in the topology of an IT environment change second by second is the key to understanding the real source of problems. The product is innovative and powerful, the team is full of good / smart / dedicated people, and the customers get great results. The investors have had lots of good outcomes with other companies and they are committed to StackState having just put a big chunk of additional money into the company recently.

The biggest challenge is trying to break through the noise in the market. StackState is the only company really talking about topology as the key to observability because they're the only company that has really cracked the code here. For most buyers, it's a new idea that they have to wrap their heads around so there's a lot of evangelism work required. It's an early-stage company, and it comes with some of the drawbacks you'd expect. We compete against much bigger companies, and there is pressure to perform at a high level and move fast. There are a lot more things to do than there are resources to get them all done, so establishing and maintaining priorities is a constant challenge. Also, there are also two main centers geographically speaking -- on in the Northeast US (Boston area mostly) and one in the Netherlands. The distance and time zones differences create some typical coordination challenges. Lastly, the product is very powerful and flexible but not totally mature. There are plenty of big customers who use it successfully in production, but sometimes there is complexity and effort in making it work perfectly in large, diverse environments.
