Avantages
Most of the team is accustomed to working remotely and asynchronously. Being able to turn off all notifications, without fear of reprimand, and work for a solid chunk of time without distraction is a great performance booster and sanity saver.
My immediate co-workers and manager are all intelligent and level headed. Disagreements we have about the architecture or implementation details are usually worked out quickly, and any arguments had during that time don't trail with us into other interactions.
The work is interesting and innovative. NodeSource is bringing products to the market that don't yet exist for Node.js. Which requires being the one to solve how to do so along the way.
Inconvénients
We're not only a new company but also entering an emerging market. Because of this we're still figuring out what it is companies are looking for. Requiring those companies to know what they want and what they actually need (which can be very different). Leading to the development of some excellent software, but in the end not being used by anyone.
