Avantages

The company leadership is very good. They made it a point to avoid layoffs during the height of covid by doing a shared temporary salary cut corporate wide. This resulted in no layoffs. Rather have a job and less money than no job. Likewise, the overall work-life balance is very good. Not overly demanding and often times very flexible.

Inconvénients

Unfortunately, Microchip is far below average in compensation (can only speak to the engineer side). I dont see how they can justify the low wages but they cannot retain new talent and good talent. Making 50% or more below market value is not attractive to anyone remotely competent in their work and experience. I started as an asic design engineer and transitioned to a software engineer almost 3 years in and my pay has been relatively flat. Unfortunately I dont see Microchip as anything more than an initial stepping stone or a comfy close-to-retirement job.
