Avantages

Direct Relief is a very dynamic organization -- always changing to adapt to different circumstances to most effectively deliver aid to partners throughout the U.S. and around the world. It is not the place for someone who wants a tedious and predictable job. Every day is different -- in an exciting and energizing way. The organization is what you make of it, and if you have ambition, the ability to effectively communicate, and good ideas, the opportunities are endless. The CEO is a visionary and Direct Relief is extremely lucky to have him steer the ship. Under his tenure, Direct Relief has grown well over 1,000% in almost every aspect imaginable -- cash and in-kind revenue, number of partners, types of programs, and public visibility. He rewards and recognizes exceptional job performance, and has an open door policy (literally - his door is always open), which encourages all levels of staff and management to drop by and bounce ideas around with him. Staff are passionate and most are self-motivated to always figure out ways to do things better so that the organization can help more people. Doing the bare minimum isn't good enough, nor should it be. The organization pushes you to want to do and be better. I've never worked with more impassioned and intelligent people.

Inconvénients

Unfortunately, there have been a couple of disgruntled current/former employees recently that have tried to rally fellow colleagues around their discontent, which has temporarily lowered morale.

Avantages

Incredible work with tremendous impact on communities around the world. Reputation to the public is well earned as a top nonprofit in the nation. Great benefits and perks for a nonprofit. A lot of hiring lately which is a good sign for growth.

Inconvénients

Cliquey environment in the office with employees that have been there a long time. Creates discomfort and tension for others to learn or ask questions and feel welcomed. Hierarchy is strongly followed across the org so communication can feel stalled sometimes. Micro aggression training would be good for some employees. Good perks, but pay still far too low for the area. If you’re single, it’s hard imagining surviving in SB county on the salary/hourly pay offered. Little to no flexibility for hybrid or remote work.
