Avantages
Working on project teams with really motivated people that come from diverse backgrounds. We get to work together to solve problems and our solutions are more innovative because the voices of all are considered. The business is large enough for growth opportunities and professional development, but not so large that you get completely lost in the crowd. I spoke to senior management about what I wanted in my career, and I was provided an opportunity, and I am really enjoying my new role as a manager. My team is a good size (not too big and not too small), so we have diversity and high levels of engagement and interaction. The management team is a mixture of experienced and beginners, so there is a great opportunity for mentorship both ways. With acquisitions, the technology portfolio has expanded and there is a good variety of technology and applications, which makes research and development exciting and fresh. The technology is best in class too, so we have pride in our work and contributions to the scientific community and clinical outcomes. Members of my team have been provided additional opportunities since Artel was acquired by Advanced Instruments.
Inconvénients
With any acquisition, there will be changes and that change can create temporary stress, but just like any change aimed at continuous improvement, you have to keep your eye on the outcome. You don't improve by sticking with the status quo. I don't really consider this a con, but rather an acknowledgement that there can be some discomfort during a time of change.
