First contact by the recruiter, typical HR questions (helps tremendously if you have a referral). Within two days I was contacted to schedule an interview with the HM

Second, scheduled for a 45 min interview with HM. Great conversation and left that meeting feeling good about the role and the interaction. Within 3 days I was asked to fly out to San Antonio Home Office for a face to face panel with various stakeholders and peers.

All travel was coordinated by the company and was super smooth. Much easier than the process followed by other organizations I have interviewed with.

Site interviews were 1 on 1 but over 6.5 hours with 6 different people. All interviews were a mixture of technical and business level interviews. There was a lot of interest and preparation from all parties involved (the STAR interview method is very helpful here)

Warning: The background check process is onerous and difficult. Be prepared for a FULL check.

    I interviewed recently with USAA. The phone interview process was fine. I was then brought in for face to face interviews. I was scheduled to have lunch with the recruiter, but she was working from home and no one informed me. I thought I did really well in the interview but was declined the position. The issues was I was declined through the automated email decline process. As anyone would be curious, I then wanted to reach out to the recruiter to ask for feedback. The response I got was, I am glad you reached out and there was nothing wrong with my interview. First off, shouldn't the recruiter be reaching out to me? Second, how can I as a person get better if I don't get candid feedback? Isn't that the job of a recruiter? They then proceeded to tell me that I did well, so please reach out if you find any other positions that I was interested in so they can give feedback to the recruiter for that role and the hiring manager. I just asked you for feedback...why can't you give it to me but you will give it to other people? I am the one that clearly needs it because I didn't get the job. At the end of the day I am not upset I didn't get the job. I am disappointed because I flew into town for an interview with a 37 week pregnant wife and took a day off from work to do so. All I really wanted was the common courtesy of a phone call and some feedback. I don't think that is much to ask for. In addition, I reached out to that recruiter about other jobs, which she asked me to do indicating she would be an advocate for me. When I did that I got no response. I would rather not have the offer to help, than someone lie to me to that they will help when they really won't. As a recruiter you need to give feedback. No one benefits from you telling me I was great. I am self aware and understand I am not perfect and have things to work on. Why didn't I get the job? Answer that question and people will be disappointed, yet understand what they can improve on for the next position they apply to.

    I applied on line, and within days, the recruiter reached out to schedule a phone interview. Immediately following, I had a phone interview with an Executive Director. The following week, I was flown to TX to interview, on-site, at their campus. It was extremely efficient, well run, and timely.

    Study behavioral interview process, the majority of their internal and external interviews cater this method to your business unit you are interviewing for. However, it does not range much from Insurance to Banking. Many of the Directors in Mortgage came over from the Insurance side.

    Internal interview is very standard - Situation, Behavior, Outcome. Focus on the outcomes. Standards interview questions but make sure you show how you had an impact on the results. Use "I" instead of "we".

    Several panels of interviews with various leaders in and out of the specific organization. Standard interview questions with an initial phone screen and then on site interviews. The panel interviews and the general interview process are fairly common. The hiring managers focus more on culture alignment and values/mission fit.

    Phone interview with HR recruiter initially - generic work background questions.
    Phone interview with hiring manager - background but relaxed, questions were personal and not read from a book.
    Recruiter calls you a few days after hiring manager phone interview to schedule an in person interview. They fly you in to San Antonio and put you up in a hotel for the night. They email you an agenda for the entire day.....I met with 5 people for about one hour each.
    Some of the interviewers read "tell me about a time" type questions but some went off the cuff. They were all supposed to ask the same questions to compare your answers later.
    After returning home I had to wait about 3 weeks before I heard from anyone - I thought I must not have got the job. When they did call it was to schedule another round of all day interviews with yet more department heads. Much of the same questions as the last bunch. This time there was also a "test/quiz" to see if I knew what I was talking about. (example: reviewing items for rules/regs etc).
    It was a very long interview process - so long that I l had looked and found work elsewhere by the time they got back to me - - even though I stressed the importance of a quick response to them ( I knew what I had coming up for interviews elsewhere).

    I felt that many of the people working in the department were not qualified and the title sounded more important than the job would have been.
