Entretien

Interviews are often organised by HR with the primary on-site contact being support or administrative staff, and will probably be of a rigid and well structured format, at least for Sydney / NSW Trains.

Sometimes a position will be first screened by a recruitment agency, but usually only when a large number of hires are occurring. Some positions might have a skills and/or IQ type test.

There will most likely be three members of the panel, with at least one person of each gender. One member of the panel will probably be your future manager, with another member of the team. Both people will be of a higher level in the organisation than the position you are interviewing for. The third person will most likely be an independent, which means they are not in the division, and most likely not even part of Transport.

You will probably be provided with the interview questions at the beginning of the interview, and will sometimes have 10-15 minutes to prepare. The questions are most likely identical or very similar to the selection criteria. Every interviewee will be provided with the same questions. The questions are probably 60% behavioural, 30% situational, and 10% general. I've never had any awkward brainteaser questions. Some questions will have multiple parts

Négociation

Like other government agencies, TfNSW has a structured band system for non-senior level positions. The difference from lowest to highest within the band is probably 8 - 10k, and you can negotiate for a higher level within the band.

Senior level positions are highly negotiable. Look at the agency's EBA at what the highest banded position pays, including the benefits of that position, and go from there.

    -Asked to be there 15 minutes in advance for security check which could be done in 5 minutes
    -Interviewed with a panel of four including a HR person which was a waste of resources. Why can't they have one or two interviewers like most other companies.
    -The recruiting process proved how inefficient the organisation is.
