    Minority candidates beware!
Had a phone interview with the recruiter, they were amazing very passionate about Square. Kind and knowledgeable about the role.
Moved onto the next round with hiring manager which was a very unpleasant experience. The interview was full of microaggressions and the manager was very condescending. It was very disheartening because this company has made a point to highlight diversity and inclusion and to have a senior member of their staff treat diverse hires like this is the exact opposite of what they stand for. I never write reviews but felt it was important to let minority candidates know what they may be walking into.

I applied online and was contacted next day by HR for a screener. Screener went really well and I had a Hiring Manager interview the next week. I thought the hiring manager interview went well but it's now 2 weeks later and I haven't heard a word, despite follow-up on my end.

Pretty disappointed that such an innovative company cannot bother to keep candidates apprised of the interview process/I wouldn't have expected interview ghosting from Square.

I was told to take an assessment test to move forward. Before I took the assessment I asked what the test measures and if they would interpret the results if I'm a good fit or not. The Recruiter told me it is NOT a barrier to entry and to just understand our personalities.

I completed the assessment, notified the recruiter, and got an email back saying they decided to move forward with other candidates. No explanation regardless of what I was told earlier.

As an organization, transparency is key, and it would've been appreciated to have been transparent from the beginning.

Tread carefully interviewers and happy hunting!

J'ai postulé en ligne. Le processus a pris une semaine. J'ai passé un entretien à Square (Saint Louis, MO (États-Unis)) en octobre 2020.

    Entretien

The interview process began with an email from the recruiter, Mubarak, requesting a time to schedule for our initial phone screen. The phone screen took place the following day, took about an hour, and was one of the most informative and engaging phone screens I've had the pleasure to be apart of. The questions I was asked were very standard behavioral-based questions, just to get a feel for my skill set and my management style. Mubarak was extremely helpful, providing me a look into the company and the position, and exhibited a true sense of passion and dedication to Square that got me extremely excited to continue onto the next part of the interview process.

This took place 3 days later online via a virtual video interview, and consisted of three thirty-minute interviews totaling an hour and a half in length. The interviews utilize the STAR approach, and Mubarak informed me of that ahead of time, so I felt very prepared to answer the questions using the appropriate format and I felt all of the questions were very well connected to the position I was applying for. What really impressed me the most is that, knowing that I was coming to this role from a different industry, I was paired with interviewers who worked in that prior industry who could really get a feel for what I could bring to the table in terms of skills and competencies, something I haven't experienced in other interviews but was very impressed by.

Unfortunately I received an auto-generated rejection email the next business day (after the weekend and holiday so I appreciated the quick response) but was a bit surprised that I didn't move forward, so I did follow up with an email to the recruiter to determine the reasons why I was not considered for a final interview. Had I made it to round three, I would have interviewed with two of the senior leaders in the department.

Again, I don't have enough positive things to say about my experience working with Mubarak and will be sure to keep my eyes out for future opportunities with Square and Cash App as the company continues it's incredible expansion and growth into 2021.

It was a great process! I applied, and heard back immediately. The hiring manager contacted me for an interview, with the three questions she'd ask over the phone. I scheduled, and she called me right on time.

The interview process was pretty standard. Initial phone screening, and then a virtual onsite that took about 2 hours and were with 3 people. I enjoyed my entire process. My only advice would be to make sure you study. Read reviews of the process, of the company, of the culture. Be PREPARED and also be yourself.

Disorganized, multiple rounds, not a lot of clarity around process. Interviews themselves were fine, but definitely a mixed bag of personalities. With some, got the impression that they weren't thrilled to have to spend some of their time interviewing.

    Entretien de Recruiter

    Candidat à l'entretien anonyme - San Francisco, CA (États-Unis)

J'ai postulé via une recommandation d'un employé. Le processus a pris 2 jours. J'ai passé un entretien à Square (San Francisco, CA (États-Unis)) en septembre 2020.

The recruiter scheduled a 30 min call that she rescheduled. I was, of course flexible, things happen.

However, I could tell from the moment that she got on the line that this was a courtesy call since I was referred. The recruiter had no interest in connecting with me at all and it showed. It became clear that they had already made up their mind about my experience before we even got on the call and not even 24 hours later, the person who referred me to the role got an email that they weren't moving forward.

The "interview" if you want to even call it that, consisted of the following:

    - Tell me about how you got into recruiting?
    - Great, any questions for me?

They didn't talk about the team, the role, the expectations.

I tried to dig into the teams this role would support and the challenges being faced. It was like pulling teeth.

As a recruiter who would never treat a candidate like this, it baffles me that this is the type of experience being offered. It's even furthermore unfortunate that exceptional recruiters who care about candidates are being screened out by bad recruiters that clearly aren't giving applicants a fair shake. It's not even close to the kind of experience that I'm sure the Recruiting Leadership Team and the company values promote.

When I connect with candidates, they get the full rundown of the team, what they are working on and how it supports the business, the role, the challenges, the projects they are working on, how you can drive impact.

    What a shame.

Very bad experience. I received a generic rejection email, and then an apology email for receiving a generic rejection suggesting that is not how they want people's experience to be, and want to provide a good candidate experience. Unfortunately, this bulk email was as much as they were willing to do to avoid causing a bad experience. The email said the one position was filled, but to please check the web site because they are hiring technical recruiters and would like to chat. Interview opportunities being scarce during Covid, and reviewing the positions and seeing I was more than qualified for several positions, I was excited. I replied that I was confident I fit all the listed roles and would love to interview for whichever role she thought was the best fit. I'm worried about being able to stay in the area with my family, and started studying and preparing for the interview to do well. However, the level of attention to detail and willingness to respond was absolutely horrible. For one, the email was a no-respond email, meaning I had to use LinkedIn Inmails to reply. These are scarce and I got no response to multiple messages. Then I had to call a friend to get the personal email, and replied. This took a lot of work and could have been avoided if they'd simply included the email and phone number in the email stating they'd "love to chat" and "were hiring for technical recruiters", job descriptions I have multiples of the experience for and have every qualification. I got a generic response that the resume was forwarded to the recruiters who would set up an interview with me if they felt it was a fit, as if I were a first time applicant and hadn't gone to all that trouble. Then, nothing. By the way, I was overqualified for each of the positions listed and have more experience than most of the recruiters there, but they apparently reviewed it, after an apology email, and never reached out. Even in the follow up, which it took great effort to receive, there was no email or phone number. They are very impersonal and I have no idea why they went out of their way to apologize if they have no intention to change the way they do things or spend any time on the phone. I would have just forgotten about it, and only spent so much time preparing because they sent an apology email offering to talk and encouraging me to apply because they were hiring for other roles, but in reviewing past interviews, many aren't satisfied with the candidate experience. This was a very bad and frustrating experience. I spent a lot of time preparing because the email was apologetic and implied clearly they wanted to talk to me if I fit one of the remaining positions, and I had more than double all the requirements, so they clearly don't back up what they promise. They didn't review my resume for qualifications, at least not honestly, after implying the interview was guaranteed, saying they'd love to chat after I reviewed that.

    • I received an apology for a generic response and offer to interview and request to say which positions I fit, and I was more than qualified for each of them with great references and recommendations, then had to go to great lengths to get another response, also from a no-reply email with no phone number, and then got no response at all. Basically, they did worse after apologizing than before and showed no concern with candidate experience.   1 réponse

Interviewing with Square was a great experience and possibly the best interview experience in my career. The application process is painless and efficient, and the recruiter that reached out to me was very professional, knowledgeable, and helpful throughout the process. My interview consisted of three separate interviews and roleplay at the end. I felt the questions asked were very relevant to the role and how I would approach it successfully. Everyone was professional, knowledgeable, and friendly throughout the entire process. Square is definitely leading in the hiring process!
