Entretien

I turned in my resume online and immediately received "hire vue" invitation via text message. They suggest you access the video internet within 3 days. You have plenty of time to showcase your ability. The entire process took me 15 minutes.

The interview process was unique due to covid. There was a 3 question video interview process followed by a video chat with some of the managers. I logged on 10 minutes early, as if I were showing up to an interview early and awaited a connection with the managers to begin the interview. After about 20 min after my interview was supposed to begin, it still hadn't, so I called the store, only to find out that the interview had just fallen through the cracks and they forgot about it, one manager who I spoke with over the phone wasn't even aware if the interview, even though I could see he was attached to the email outlining the start time and details. I was pretty disappointed to find that out and found it pretty unprofessional and disorganized.

I am a former REI employee who had positive work performance while working for REI previously. Back then, REI did group interviews for store roles (multiple interviewers and multiple candidates simultaneously, which I thought was a smart way to assess problem-solving skills when working in a diverse team). During COVID, I submitted a tailored resume and cover letter and immediately received an auto-email inviting me to submit pre-recorded answers to interview prompts via the HireVue app/site. It’s essentially the non-actor’s version of mailing in an audition tape. A family member thought that was odd coming from a company that emphasizes DEI, as this favors candidates who have laptops, tablets, smartphones, and other forms of financial privilege during a time when equitable digital access is at an all-time low. The recording video clips felt sort of awkward compared to a 10-15 minute phone screen connecting with a live human (isn’t that what store roles are about?). However, I put in a solid effort and think I did pretty well. I was surprised that after weeks, no one has reached out to me regardless of the outcome. Not even a courtesy “Thank you for your application, we decided to move forward with another candidate” email or voicemail from a recruiter. It was pretty disappointing and not what I have come to expect from REI based on past experiences. During the time since I last worked there, I have always spoken glowingly about REI. However, I don’t think I’ll be applying to or recommending REI in the future to prospective employees.

Applied online and about a week later, I was asked to do a HireVue screening. After that I had an interview with a recruiter, followed by several other interviews across the span of a several weeks with different people on the team, in HR and marketing. The last interview was with the hiring manager. I had turned down another interview so that I could attend this one and spent several hours preparing myself. The hiring manager asked me one question, and then told me everyone had loved connecting with me. She then she told me she wasn’t going to offer me the position but that there might be a contract role on a different team that I might be considered for...... in a few months. She said it would be like an extended interview, so after 9+ interviews and several weeks later, they wanted to offer me a maybe position to test out my qualifications some more? I wish they would have told me this over an email so that I wouldn’t have missed out on the other opportunity. At the very least, now I know to avoid applying for REI positions in the future.

Used Hirevue for initial interview. Then progressed onto a phone interview with a manager. Questions were relevant and easy to understand. Hirevue was a little strange at first, but it makes sense in the Pandemic

Almost immediately after submitting my resume, I received an invitation to do a quick on-demand video interview through HireVue. The video interview involved 4 free-response questions, an inquiry of how much pay I was looking for, and my availability.

Consisted of 6 questions and answered through an application called HireVue. A really easy and efficient process especially given the new COVID restrictions in Washington State. Filmed yourself for 4 questions to allowed 4 tries for each filming.

Applied online, then got asked to complete a zoom interview. After that was asked to do a zoom interview with the manager and another sales associate. I got the job offer within 30 minutes of finishing up the phone interview.

Group Interview with other candidates. Examine team work skills and overall personality. Also test on the spot thinking and communication skills. Ask about outdoor experiences and experience level. After the group interview, you"ll be contacted with whether you got the job or not.
