Entretien

Not very impressive interview process. The phone screen went well enough but the face to face meeting was not very professional. The person I interviewed was dressed like she / he was going to the movies and didn't even give me a business card. The main office space was dark and somewhat uninviting as I walked through to the interview room. There was no pulse in the office. The person I interviewed with was nice, though and we got on well. I did not receive any follow up after the interview, even to say I was not successful.

Entretien

Submission of cover letter and resume, followed by a Skype interview, was then asked for references and a writing sample and e-mail contact after that. There were extremely long delays in the process. One month or more between contacts...very unprofessional. Interview questions were typical, regarding my experience relevant to the position. Was told that my application and interview were quite impressive, but still did not get the job.

Entretien

Had two stages of panel interviews on Skype comprising the two teams, one based in Canada and the other based in the regional office in Senegal. The interviews were conducted in both English and French because the position required fluency in both English and French. It appeared there was already an internal candidiate by the second stage of the interview.

I was contacted for an HR screening interview 6 weeks after I applied for the position (I had received an initial confirmation email saying if I didn't hear within 2 weeks, I could assume I wasn't being considered).

The interview was over the phone and it was immediately apparent the HR Rep was disinterested in talking to me. She had me on speaker phone and I could hear her printing and shuffling things around while she spoke. She was very impersonal, apathetic and seemed distracted. She also interrupted me frequently and had a condescending tone.

After explaining what the organization does, her first question for me was "Can you tell me what you are doing right now, what your education and work background is and what projects have you had that are relevant to the responsibilities of this position". This lazy grouping of several questions into one tells me she was trying to get the interview over with as soon as possible. I was asked one more question about my experience writing and that was it (aside from the questions I had for her).

Toward the end of the interview, when I was trying to sell myself some more by talking about my education, she implied the only reason my application was selected was because I went to the same university as one of the Senior staff members.

It seemed the HR Rep had already made her decision about me before the interview even started. Needless to say, I wasn't contacted for a second interview. Her unprofessional manner was a waste of both her and my time.

The interview was hurried - very minimal questions from the senior staff interviewers. Director level a few more technical questions, but it appeared they had already made up their minds as to who they wanted to hire. I was not sure it was me, until 3 wks later when I got the call could I start tomorrow.

Really great. I was first offered a phone interview. The phone interview asked about familiarity with specific international trends, experience with client services, and your motivation for applying. Then came the panel interview which was a bit nerve racking, but if you know how international development organizations work you are fine.

Plan International employs a comprehensive competency-based interview with representation from the department and Human Resources. Interviewees are given a technical test which covers the key skill areas of the role.
