Entretien de Program Manager

Employé anonyme - Seattle, WA (États-Unis)
Offre d'embauche acceptée
Expérience positive
Difficulté moyenne

Candidature

J'ai postulé via une recommandation d'un employé. Le processus a pris 4 semaines. J'ai passé un entretien à Microsoft (Seattle, WA (États-Unis)) en novembre 2018.

Entretien

Single On campus interview with brief technical and product design question, on site with more in depth product design / execution questions. On site was 5 total interviews throughout the day, apparently the last interview is 'as appropriate.'

Four back to back onsite interview in Redmond. Includes product design, coding, behavior questions. Be sure to talk about your project experiences both technically and nontechnically. For product design questions, refer to cracking the pm interview book. It really helps.

J'ai postulé via un établissement de l'enseignement supérieur ou universitaire.. Le processus a pris +3 mois. J'ai passé un entretien à Microsoft (Redmond, WA (États-Unis)) en octobre 2018.

    Entretien

Applied through university. Didn't expect an interview invite. The entire process took around 3 months.

Invited for a 30 mins on-campus interview in October 2018. Its a mix of technical and resume based given that I have around work experience. I was honest in every response I gave. The interviewer was really nice and it was more conversational.

I didn't expect an invite for an on-site interview. Since I made it to this level, I wanted to clear it. I had around 20 days when I got the invite for the onsite interviews. Read "Cracking the PM interview" and "Decode and Conquer". Practiced some behavioral and basic programming questions.

Microsoft took care of all the expenses to attend the interview onsite.

On the day of my interview, I meet four people. I had to meet the hiring manager first since she couldn't accommodate in a different time. It was purely behavioral. I thought I screwed it since she gave me feedback which implied "can do well and don't be nervous" at the end of my interview.

My 2nd interviewer did ask me a few design specific questions and some questions based out of my resume. I did better than my previous interview.

The third interview is the one I nailed. All questions were situation based like how I would handle a specific task or conflict. My experience as a Developer and Analyst helped me to answer these questions well. I asked a lot of questions in this round. By the end of this interview, I felt super comfortable and confident because my interviewer was really nice.

I then had my final lunch interview. Though I was hungry by this time, I decided to go lite and simple so that I could concentrate more on talking than on eating. This interview was much more casual than all of my interviews. It was very conversational but at the same time, we managed to take turns in asking role specific questions. The trick I used to do well in this round is that I asked the questions I was asked by my interviewers in my previous rounds and I guess it worked since I cleared the interview ;)

Since I only had 4 rounds as opposed to 5, I wasn't entirely positive. (many successful PM interviews in glassdoor had 5 rounds with an "as is" round but not all. It looks like my lunch interview is my as is round).

Within a week, I received an email saying I was a offered the job.

    Takeaways -
    * I have non-CS bachelors and Masters degree so my experience as a developer and analyst played a major role here.
*If you have a degree in CS, you can expect some lite coding exercise.
*Make sure you know everything you mentioned in your resume. If they point out something and you are not an expert or don't have an explanation for it, be honest and justify it.
    * Focus on STAR based questions and have some readymade answers. Read/practice them well. These were the lifesavers in my case since I come from a non-CS educational background.
    * Read "Cracking the PM interview" and "Decode and Conquer". You may or may not get questions from this book but it helps a ton to read these books. Tailor your answers based on how these books recommend.
    * Don't forget to put a smile throughout the interview process. Interviewers at Microsoft are very friendly and you will definitely enjoy talking to them.
*They don't expect you to dress professionally but doing so would definitely imply that you are serious about this job.
    * Most importantly, make sure to have your breakfast before the interview. I was only offered beverages during my first three rounds and each interview lasts for around an hour roughly. I'm glad I managed to eat that leftover pizza before leaving for the interview. Skipping the breakfast will only ruin your day so try to squeeze in some time to have an energy bar or anything for that matter.

    Entretien

4 rounds of back-to-back interviews onsite. The experience was very nice overall, and all my interviewers were kind and patient. Though I might have screwed something up during the last round of my interview as by the end my interviewer said something like "good luck" and "you should be notified the decision very soon" :(.

Contacted by Recruiter, followed by 30 min technical phone interview, followed by on-site at Redmond with 4~5 engineers. Whole process took roughly 6~8 weeks. Even though I was transferred to 3 different recruiters, they were all responsive.

The first round interview was straightforward yet I learned you should communicate with the interviewer rather than just write on the whiteboard. He asked me about my background and to elaborate on every experience.

    Entretien

Had on campus inteview then was flown out to Redmond campus. Everything was taken care of inlcuding food, ubers, and tourist activites. Had 4 interviews in the morning (there was also an afternoon group). Pretty enjoyable process and the majority of my interviewers were smart, driven and well spoken. I didn’t get along at all with one of my interviewers, most likely leading to the no offer. Be prepared for design questions, brain teasers, and behavioral questions. Not much coding.
