    Had to complete two separate aptitude tests as part of the online application. You're prompted with different scenarios and you have to choose which solutions are best suited to the each scenario. Fairly simple stuff -- just common sense really. Take your time though.

    They followed up my online application with a text message asking to come in for an interview. I had already looked at some of the recent interview reviews on Glassdoor, so I was expecting a group interview. There were 4 other applicants at the interview and we all sat down on one table. We were asked to come up with a guide for new selling assistants at John Lewis, which were:

    - 5 ways to deliver good customer service.
    - 5 ways to handle a customer who is upset or angry.
    - 3 ways to enhance product knowledge.

    I would suggest doing your research and come up with some solid points beforehand. Make yourself heard, but remember to listen and engage with other people in the group. I got the impression this was something they were looking at closely.

    The group interview was followed up with a 1-on-1 interview. There were 5 questions. The first was tell me about yourself; the others were customer service based. The last question was just reiterating what you had already contributed to the group. Overall, a really positive experience as it was quite challenging and rewarding in the end.

    There was about 11 of us as it was a group assessment, we got split into mini groups of 3+. First of all they went straight into individiual 1 on 1 interviews where they basically asked every typical interview question, next they gave us a form to fill in or availability etc, and finally in our group we had a task to come up with answers on how to give someone the right advise for starting at John Lewis which was really basic, questions like give 3 examples on how to increase product knowledge etc

    10 minutes presentation,10 minutes questions, then 40 minute questions. It was a very average interview process, with two people posing questions to you.Both interviewers were friendly and approachable, made me feel at ease

    group interview and individual interview, standard competency questions and generally friendly atmosphere. essentially just looking for friendly and approachable personality. Whole process took less than 2 hours and no trial shift was involved.

    Very simple and straightforward. We were briefly asked why we wanted the job and to describe ourselves. We were then given a group task to discuss the order in which we would complete a list of tasks. Finally we were asked to individually answer some situational based question.

    I interviewed at the Oxford Street store. There were 12 people scheduled to interview but only 6 or 7 arrived. A John Lewis employee escorts your group to a room where you all fill in an availability form and then you have a one-to-one with a section manager or HR where they ask you basic retail questions and work preferences. This one-to-one takes places in a large room where the other candidates are also having their interviews.

    After the one-to-one-one you return to the previous room and sit in small groups (3 in my experience) and do a group exercise whilst being watched by two JL employees. The group exercise was to design a leaflet for new JL employees giving them advice on ways to give good customer service, enhance product knowledge and deal with complaints. The group then has to choose one group member to present the group's findings. I was declined a week after interviewing, despite being chosen to present and scoring almost perfect scores, according to feedback. So, I don't know what they're looking for.

    Consisted of a group exercise monitored closely by a senior Partner to come up with a priority action list from fictional task scenario. This was followed up by an individual assessment - A series of 3 scenarios asking how you would deal with certain situations. There is prep time to come up with your answers, and then explain them one-to-one with one of the senior partners interviewing.
