Age discrimination is virtually impossible to prove during an interview these days, but when you see there is practically no one over 40 (or even 35) in HubSpot you can't help it but ask - was it about my gray hair or something else ?!

    Questions d'entretien d'embauche

    • HubSpot uses the same questions -look up from other reviewers and you will see the same questions from 3-4 years ago still being used without modification.   1 réponse

I submitted an application and then received a message on LinkedIn from the recruiter a couple days later but before my application was reviewed, which was nice surprise. We set up an initial call a couple days after that. At the end of the call, she informed me that I'd be moving to a phone interview with the hiring manager, which we then scheduled for the following week. At the end of that call, she provided a lay of the land of the process should interviews continue to go well. A series of video interviews were then scheduled as the next step. From there, I was given an assessment to complete and then had a final interview with a team member/direct report to the role. Each person I met was awesome. It was clear that they believed in HubSpot's mission and embodied HEART, leaving me more excited after each conversation.

The entire process took about 3 weeks and I wouldn't change anything about it. What stood out most was the proactivity and responsiveness of the communication and the thoroughness throughout. I also loved that there was intentionality in ensuring that the interview panel was diverse in multiple ways, which enabled me to see myself in HubSpot but also provided a holistic view of the role. The assessment was somewhat intense but so appreciated because it allowed you to offer a potential solution to a problem that you may come up against in your role, and the feedback given provided a glimpse into whether or not you were on the right track in your thinking. In the end, it was very well worth it. HubSpot is a great place to be!

HR screening call, call with manager, would have gone on to technical interview next if I had progressed to the third interview.

They were very fair and I was especially grateful for tangible feedback on why I wasn’t selected to move forward. Even if it wasn’t the outcome I wanted, they handled it professionally and with sensitivity, and I can use the feedback to develop further.

I submitted an application and cover letter directly through the HubSpot careers site, proactively connected with numerous employees via LinkedIn, and received nothing more than a canned rejection email. No telephone screening, no feedback, just an blanket email that I can't respond to.

    Questions d'entretien d'embauche

    • The fact that I didn't even receive a telephone screening but rather a blanket email, from a highly regarded company, is baffling to me given my background and professional experience.   Répondre à cette question

Quick, friendly, but with little feedback about the process. Recruiter was great but hiring manager seemed to lack experience which show they promote from within but that can be a problem when talking to and assessing experienced applicants. May want to consider relying more on the Principal Recruiter.

So, I combed through 85% of the interview reviews here on Glassdoor before applying. Honestly, I was initially terrified to interview for a position here because of how rigorous and extensive former interviewees claimed they were. And they were right, however, it was so impactful.

The first stage is a video interview. There were three questions, fairly easy. You get 30 seconds to prepare and one minute to answer. The practice session really helped with sculpting my answers as well as learning how to pace myself when answering the questions.

The second stage is the recruiter phone screen. My recruiter was Laura Robson. I really enjoyed speaking with her, she was amazing. She asked me basic questions, like why HubSpot, and got a chance to walk through some of my experience. Afterwards, she let me know that I made it to the next round. She prepped me for the call and told me what the hiring manager would be looking for. (Bonus points!)

The next stage was the hiring manager interview. This interview was thorough and she asked purposeful questions. I especially liked that before each question SHE EXPLAINED WHY IT WAS BEING ASKED and WHAT SKILLS ALIGNED WITH THAT PARTICULAR QUESTION. She made me feel comfortable even when I stumbled over a couple of my answers.

A few days later, I received an email stating that I didn’t make it to the next round. I have never felt more empowered after getting an “unfortunately…” email from a recruiter, EVER. I really enjoyed the process and although I didn't get the position, I had a pleasant experience and gained a few interviewing skills too.

What I liked most about their recruiting practices is that they literally look past your resume. Coming from a very diverse employment background, I can tell that they were genuinely interested in learning about me, my experiences and what I can bring to the table. You do not this type of treatment as a candidate from everyone. I’ve had some pretty rough interview experiences and compared to other companies, HubSpot made me feel like I was valued throughout the entire process. Awesome work folks.

The first interview is a cold, recorded video process with absolutely no one from HubSpot on the other end. This should show candidates from the get-go that HubSpot employees can't be bothered with their interviewees. Not only is this interview process awkward, but there's no one there to offer help if something goes awry. This was the case for me. I was way over qualified for the position, but still spent hours preparing for the interview as any interviewee who cares about a company or position does. Turns out, it would all be for not. As soon as I pressed the button to start the video interview, my new neighbor started drilling on the wall right next to me, totally overpowering my voice and completely throwing me off. You're only given mere seconds to answer the two questions and I already pressed the start button right before the drilling, so I had no way to stop the tape from rolling. There was nothing I could do to pause the interview till the noise subsided or to fix my recording once finished. There was no one on the other end to re-ask my question or to tell me it wasn't a big deal and give me another chance to answer. Naturally, I reached out to the video interview program's support, who quickly replied and told me to reach out to HubSpot. I reached out to the hiring manager and got her OOO. As instructed by her OOO, I reached out to the hiring manager's boss, and also received that woman's OOO. This was the Friday before Labor Day Weekend. The boss reached out a few days later and tried to help, but didn't understand how the program worked so nothing was resolved. The actual hiring manager, she never responded to my plea for help. That is, unless you count the automated rejection letter. The hiring manager couldn't even respond to my message before telling her system to reject me. Won't ever apply to this hypocritical and unemphatic company again, and will be advising my network to do the same. A lack of empathy of this magnitude should not ever be tolerated, but particularly in the state of society right now and by a company that preaches their so-called empathy and culture.

    - Pre Recorded interview of three questions via video.
    - If you make it you get a phone screen.

The phone screen was scripted. It wasn't a conversation and while time is precious the interview process reflects the company and it just seemed like the recruiter had a million interviews because you could tell they were reading line by line. Even if you have a script it shouldn't sound like you do.

I asked for feedback nothing yet. I know my interview was good. If anything I am too qualified maybe? I know the company is picky.
