I applied online and the process took exactly a month from first contact to final offer.
The steps of the process were:
-30 minute phone call with talent acquisition manager focusing on my background and fit with the company
-30-45 min phone call with hiring manager focusing on my experience for the specific job functions
-Take home assessment of skills (instructions clarified it should take about 2-3 hours)
- Video panel interview for about 3 hours with various members of the Greenhouse team, including hiring manager again. These interviews were all mostly focused on behavioral questions.
-30 minute video call with VP - again, mostly behavioral questions, some experience.
-15 minute video call with hiring manager and TA manager to extend an offer
While it was quite a few steps and I would not say it was "easy", I was still VERY impressed with the interview process. The talent acquisition team was very prompt with their responses. They always laid out the next steps and the timeline for communication. I don't think I ever went more than 48 hours without them checking in, even if it was only to say "we are still discussing and you should hear from us within X days".
I was also impressed with their commitment to reducing bias in the hiring process. The first two interviews were held over phone, so nothing about my appearance was known. The take-home assessments were "graded" anonymously so as to reduce grading bias. And the interview questions were methodical and scripted. This may sound like a bad thing, but it meant I was never asked the same thing twice, and I knew that other candidates were being asked the exact same thing. Though it was lengthy, I didn't feel like my time was wasted. All of my interviewers did a great job of making it feel like a conversation even if they had the questions assigned to them. They were also dressed very casually (most in t-shirts), so when they tell you to wear whatever is comfortable for you in your interview, it's definitely not a trick!
Overall everyone was extremely kind and the process was efficient. I'm glad to say they live up to the hiring standards they help other companies aspire to.
