      Entretien

I was contacted by a recruiter off of my LinkedIn profile. I really wasn't looking for a new job, but I am always interested to see what's out there. Plus, this is a salaried opportunity $60K/year + OTE of $120K where my current job is full commission, so it never hurts to look. After a short interview with the recruiter to judge my experience and interest, he submitted my information to Hotel Engine. They got back to me right away to set up a time to schedule an interview. I actually had to reschedule my original interview. There was a bit of a scheduling mishap, by the person setting it up. She took full responsibility for what happened, which I looked at favorably. Someone who takes ownership of their mistake. I was impressed. If She was willing to do that, it shows that this is an ethical company. When I did finally have the 1st interview, it was a great experience. It was a phone interview. I learned about the job, the expectations, and the company culture. He also got a good idea of who I am and my work habits. At the end of the interview, he said he was going to pass my name on, that I would be taking an assessment and if I passed that move forward to the next interview. The assessment was a 50 question test that word problems, word association, vocabulary type questions...and part of it was also shape sequences, which was a bit confusing, why you would need that in a sales role, but okay. They also had a personality test, to see how you might fit within their company culture. I finished both those tests and passed, because I was contacted to setup the 2nd interview. In the 2nd interview, a camera interview on Microsoft Teams. I felt I was prepared. I felt I had good questions. I felt I explained my experience in sales well. I guess my connection with this interviewer was not as fluent as my connection with the first interviewer. Not to say he was a bad guy, in fact, the total opposite. I felt we had a good conversation. I definitely had a positive impression. Maybe I didn't explain enough my hard work that I put in on a daily basis. Having really not been looking, my interview skills might need a bit of work. The feedback that I received was I was not able to hold a fluid conversation, which I have never been accused of. Also, they questioned my work ethic, which has also never been a problem. Maybe I will keep this in mind for my next interview opportunity. I don't take many, because I like what I do, but I thought this would be and interesting product and company to work with. I hold no ill will towards this company. It seems like a very interesting product to sell. I thought I would be very successful. It seems like a great company culture. The people that I dealt with were good people. They are very quick and decisive with their communications, which I appreciated. I am disappointed, but will continue to be successful at what I already do.

The interview process started off solid, but it went downhill fast once I met the hiring manager and VP of Sales. The conversation felt like a waste of time. A lot of the questions didn’t really matter, and they kept going on about “culture” and the “perfect fit,” which honestly just felt like buzzwords. What really stood out was how unprofessional it felt. The hiring manager was on his phone. It set a bad tone right away. There was no talk about coaching, training, or how they actually support reps, just pressure about high expectations and big goals. That’s not exciting; it’s a red flag. Recruiters are AMAZING thouugh.

Engaging interview process. Ended up going a different route but enjoyed the conversations. They asked questions related to prior sales experience. They also asked about times you've overcame challenges or adversity in life. It's a startup so they want self starters and competitive types.

I went through 2 steps -1 Recruiter phone screen -1 Directly with Sales Manager -Had I proceeded, an in person mock-call would've taken place in their downtown Denver office. Recruiter was super kind and had a nice convo. She'd been with Engine for a few months. The manager had been there about a month and was clearly new. It was interesting- nice guy with some nice conversation and could tell a lot about the company, They're looking for someone who can close a lot of short-cycle sales and does a lot of outreach, They said about 50 calls per day believe. I couldn't get clarity on the commission structure- given it's a free platform. They're in the office everyday pretty much in downtown Denver, and doesn't sound like a lot of flexibility with that. Everyone kind of sits on one floor from what I could see. Clearly rapidly growing and I would guess they want to sell in a couple of years. 70K base is what they offered. I get the sense of a high churn, just based off the tenure of people I connected with and found on Linked In. Seems like you hit your quota or you're gone without much leash.

      Question 1

Tell me about a deal you closed with a short sales cycle? How many calls do you make per week? Where do you feel like you fall short in your role?
