Candidature

J'ai postulé en ligne. Le processus a pris +6 mois. J'ai passé un entretien à City of Hamilton, Ontario (Hamilton, ON) en février 2018.

Entretien

Mostly scenario based questions and a few questions about the skills required for the role . One of the interviewers was more laid back while the other was stricter and harder to read. A downside is it that the hiring process is for a pool so, your interviewer might or might not be your manager upon resumption.

    Candidature

J'ai postulé en ligne. Le processus a pris 3 semaines. J'ai passé un entretien à City of Hamilton, Ontario (Hamilton, ON) en mai 2016.

    Entretien

I applied online through the city's website, and received the first circuit round interview three weeks later. The interview involved rotating between 6 booths, with 2 mins to read and prepare responses, and 4 mins to answer.

I enjoyed answering and interacting with the interviewers, however only 4 of them seemed interested and would respond and inquire further to what I had to say. Two of the interviewers seemed cold and would not even interact. I guess they had been there all day, so fatigue must have set in.

Overall, getting a job with the city is difficult unless you know someone in HR or were referred by an existing employee. Before the interview, I approached colleagues who had been interviewed at the city, and one of them said that it was just a show they were putting up to show everyone they have "fair recruitment policies", but they probably have a candidate selected. The colleague had been interviewed for the Admin Assist position, however the person who got in had been coached, so it was all a charade. The city says they are against nepotism but I find that hard to believe. They may be against nepotism at the level of city politicians, but not at the HR level. I also consulted with another colleague who had known someone working in HR at the city, and he told me that he was told even getting a position for a garbage picker within the city is extremely nepotistic.
