    Aucune offre d'embauche
    Expérience positive

    Candidature

Le processus a pris 4 semaines. J'ai passé un entretien à Boston Consulting Group.

    Entretien

First round on campus; second round on site with 2 cases with partner-level people at the firm. Looking for structure and correct answers to the case. Second round is more challenging than the first and usually requires some sort of trick to unlock the case

    Entretien

2 rounds, one with 2 other interviewees. One at office you're applying to.

First was in a group of 3 and the interviewer (Program Manager). 2nd was with Partners. Made the 2nd but didn't get an offer. (Reason -- not enough case study prep, a few answers were inconcise)

The interview process is straightforward, master business cases and you'll succeed. There are plenty of free ones online to aid your practice. I read and memorized Case In Point and it helps provide a useful beginning framework for thinking about things, although you shouldn't just repeat the canned responses from the book

    Entretien

First-round interview conducted over Skype with two consultants; 45 minutes back-to-back. Received a decision round notification the next business day. I flew to the office and met with two partners in a similar format to the first round. I received an offer the business day after my decision round. Overall, I had an extremely positive experience meeting with both consultants and partners.

    Candidature

Le processus a pris +3 semaines. J'ai passé un entretien à Boston Consulting Group (Philadelphia, PA (États-Unis)) en janvier 2020.

    Entretien

    First round
Two interview, both were friendly and polite
Asked about recent news that interest me, focused on team and leadership fit question.
Two cases-1 from public sector (which I totally flunked) and the other airline (which was fairly easier).
Not too maths heavy but public sector one didnt make much sense to me. I recommend you practice one or two public sector cases.

Entretien de Lead Machine Learning Engineer

    Candidat à l'entretien anonyme - New York, NY (États-Unis)
    Aucune offre d'embauche
    Expérience négative
    Entretien dificile

    Candidature

J'ai postulé en ligne. Le processus a pris 3 semaines. J'ai passé un entretien à Boston Consulting Group (New York, NY (États-Unis)) en janvier 2020.

    Entretien

I applied to a position lower than the one I ended up being considered for so that I could avoid the travel component. The recruiter, who was super nice, professional, and knowledgeable, particularly relative to most other recruiters out there, said I'd be a better fit for either the Lead or Senior level. It sounded like what I wanted but included travel, so I went for it. We spoke on the phone twice for thirty minutes each time.

The first real round of the process is a two-hour (!) technical task with seven (!) questions. It's a HackerRank but it isn't live, although it should have been. Four multiple-choice questions about algorithms you probably haven't thought about in ages. Then three programming assessments.

The first one I would say was medium to difficult. Given a long integer, translate that to its Excel spreadsheet location, so for instance 0 = 1A, 702 = 1ZZ, 703 = 2A, and so on. I was able to get all of the tests to pass except for those relating to speed. But I had two more programming problems to do.

The third was definitely hard. You're an event coordinator and several companies want to come give presentations, for example the first one might come at 1pm and want to speak for two hours, the next might come at 3pm and want to speak for two hours, but a third might also want to come at 3 and speak for one hour, that sort of thing. Return the number of companies you can fit on the schedule. This one I almost had complete if I hadn't spent so much time on the second question, plus I ran out of time without submitting and I don't know if my work was automatically submitted. The recruiter never told me.

Now the second one, which was BEYOND hard. Some stock has X shares available for purchase. Given some set of bids, say which bidder won't be able to purchase any shares. It's sort of like a knapsack problem except you have to optimize such that the bidder making the highest bid is favoured but so is the bidder making the largest bid as well as the bidder making the earliest bid. Maybe I could have solved a problem major banks have been working to solve for hundreds of years if this was the only programming task I had been given. But this PLUS the other two?

About an hour later I received an automated message saying I had been rejected.

So now I have wasted three hours of my time plus been subjected to absurd, unrealistic expectations for a programmer at any level for a job I didn't even apply to. If you're looking for someone to do 50% programming, 50% client-facing project planning, exactly how does this assessment screen for any of this? Wouldn't you have preferred that I work with another team member on such problems, as that's what we'll be doing at a client site anyway?

I was asked to go in for a in-person interview at the Boston Office. The interviewer was nice but it was evident that they did not have much experience in interviewing candidates. Basic behavioral questions mostly.
