TLDR: worst interview process I've ever experienced, I expected better from Amazon

process started when a recruited reached out to me, and set up a phone screen. The recruiter specifically told me that any coding problems could be solved in any common language (python was on the list of common languages). Despite this, on the phone screen the interviewer insisted I write in C, which I've used a good amount in the past but certainly wasn't fresh with. Somehow my weird mix of C syntax mixed with pseudocode and explaining my thought process was enough to be invited to do an on site interview. When the recruiter reached out to me saying they wanted me to do an on site, I mentioned I was surprised given the miscommunication over which languages were acceptable. The recruiter responsed that the interviewer 'really shouldn't have done that' and that they were 'fairly new to interviewing', but assured me going forward using python would be ok. A few days later, a different recruiter reached out to schedule the on site, and I again asked if python was acceptable, and she responded the same way. Given that they wanted to schedule the interview as soon as possible, and I have a full-time job, it didn't seem practical to relearn all of the details of the C language, so I figured I'd stick with python considering the recruiter(s) had said no less than 5-6 times that python was okay. Well the day of the interview came, and 3 out of 4 interviewers asked me to use C. This time I told them the recruiters had assured me python was okay, and 2 of the 3 seemed fine with that, while one of the interviewers clearly made up his mind the second I said anything. To wrap it all up, the last interviewer (who I was actually having a decent, engaging conversation with) essentially hung up on me right when time was up. The cherry on top was the rejection phone call from the recruiter lasted 25 seconds. No feedback, not even a 'sorry it didn't work out'

Saw the position in the website, connected with recruiter in LinkedIn, had an initial call with her about the fit, got the confirmation about the hiring manager liking my profile and she schedules for a one hour technical round with HM. Three days after I got the confirmation that they would like to move ahead with final round.

Being in the COVID situation all the companies were doing VCs and happened same for this role too. Had 5 rounds with one bar raiser round and everything went as planned and no distractions.

Went in deep discussion about writing assessment with 2 of 5 interviewers. And got the call from recruiter after 1.5 days about they wanted to offer me the role.

Entretien de Senior Embedded Software Engineer

J'ai postulé via une recommandation d'un employé. Le processus a pris 4 semaines. J'ai passé un entretien à Amazon Lab126 en mai 2020.

    Entretien

Overall, about 60% of the virtual onsite interview time was used for the leadership questions. I used a headset since it was recommended by them. However, one of the interviewers didn't use one and used his laptop's speaker and microphone. He was typing throughout the the whole 1 hour whenever I said something. Since he was using his laptop's microphone, the keystroke sound directly bombarded my ears. I couldn't even hear what I was saying. It was so obnoxious and drove me crazy and extremely tired. That round was totally messed up in that way. It was ridiculous that Amazon interviewers were supposed to take dictation of every single word a candidate speaks. Conversation can't be done that way. Why don't they just use a voice recorder?

I applied online and was contacted by Amazon recruiter about a week later. She arranged a technical phone interview and told me that the interview consists of technical, coding and behavioral portions. So, I spent a lot of time on coding and 14 famous Amazon principles for behavior interview. However, on interview day, the hiring manager only asked me technical questions. I think I did a good job answering his questions considering my job experience was not directly related to the job. However, after 2 days, I got a rejection email.

    Entretien

The recruiter begged me to interview. I am a embedded systems engineer not a OS software engineer. I finally agreed. I took a coding test online and passed. I was offered a trip to Austin for 3 days all expenses paid; airfare, hotel, car rental, and $500 expense card. I accepted the offer. Nearing the interview date the $500 card hadn't arrived and I didn't have a car rental. The started backtracking on the initial agreement. The interview was decent. I was told I was not a good fit. Which matches what I originally told the recruiter. I submitted my expenses and never got paid. I was out $160 and 3 working days. The most expensive interview I have ever been on. A waste of time.

phone interview with hr, and then team member, after that, an onsite interview. The onsite interview has a lot of behavior questions, which the hr stressed in his email.

Met two Indian guys during the onsite interview, both are barely decent person. One is a manager from mechanical design team, one is a member from that mechanical design team. The manager seems very sleepy, and he cannot keep his eyes open during the whole interview course. The other guy is the worst people I ever met. He tried hard to pretend he knew thermal, and asked a lot of foolish questions. And his attitude was very confrontational. After him, I interviewed the hr person, and expressed my concerns. But I guess that cannot help with anything.

    • some exmaples: Tell me about thermocouples? Then why, why, why? He said he would keep asking why if I said I know sth. He would ask why until I said I do not know.

How do you attach thermocouples? I answered how I did that. and he replied "wrong". I said, well, I saw some other big companies did similarly in their guidelines. He replied, that's wrong. I asked if he can share whats the right to way to do. He said he can not. .... the whole process was very confrontational.   Répondre à cette question
