    Avantages

The best reason is the culture of the organization. The company is diverse and portrays a great family environment to work. The organization is a great believer in giving back to the community. Overall, a great place to work.

    Inconvénients

There is really no con at working at CIBC World Markets. The goal is for the individual to work hard, be an active participator in events and generate ideas to continuously improving the goals of the organization.

J'ai travaillé chez CIBC World Markets à temps plein plus de 3 ans

    Avantages

With CIBC's global reach and scale, the firm had a constant work flow that kept you busy. This allowed analysts to get a lot of experience early in their careers. The company's financial soundness also provided peace of mind during the economic downturn during COVID. Small, boutique investment banks had deal flow dry up and had to make layoffs, whereas CIBC was able to continue paying all junior staff and even provide some bonuses.

    Inconvénients

No mistake about it, you are treated like a number, and not as an individual. Salaries and bonuses are a blanketed approach, no matter how hard you work you will be paid the same as the analyst next to you who cuts corners. Think your hard work will get you a promotion faster? Nope, the company has a strict tenured approach to promotions. As an analyst, you must work a full 36 months to be considered for a promotion, regardless of how exceptional of a worker you are. In my opinion, this promotes mediocrity. Why work hard, stay late, and work weekends if the slacker will get promoted just as fast? You're better off going to the bar with your friends. Maybe this is a pro for some people though. On a separate note, the company is very behind from a technology standpoint. As an investment banking analyst at a large firm, you would think you would have a large amount of technology resources to complete your work. Not the case.
