    Avantages

Good but not great benefits. Above average salary, especially for clerical work. Can make this a career if you just go with the flow and keep your head down.

    Inconvénients

Extra vacation time takes every 7 years to accumulate. Should be 5 like most other places. Management doesn't do anything about poor workers because it takes too much documentation. They just push more work on the productive employees. Not much you can do in the union environment about inequity of work ethic between employees. Not a lot of common sense in upper management. Supervision can be moved around and you end up working far from your home.

    Conseils à la direction

Don't punish everyone for the actions of one. Do your job and document poor workers. Stop eroding the benefits. Quicker accumulation of vacation time. Hard to balance famiky/work time when you don't get a 3rd week of vacation for 7 years.

    Avantages

Co-workers were mostly good people to work with, helpful, sharing and accommodating. Some low level managers were pretty decent or as decent as they were allowed to be with their employees.

    Inconvénients

During the time I was there the benefits and perks continued to be removed and management's attitude changed to a style of "don't bother coming to me unless you have something good to say." They also started implementing so much process that it became difficult to perform your job at times. Before the acquisition they stopped hiring and then brought in the outsourcing company that the CFO worked at and came from and even started "asking" that a lot of work be run past them for possible outsourcing. A lot of the younger workers started leaving for other companies.

    Conseils à la direction

Remember how you got to where you were as a company, you used to be able to claim that employee's voted you one of the best places to work and you can't claim that anymore.

    Avantages

    Work life balance, helpful coworkers

    Inconvénients

Lots of favoritism. Not the smartest people. There has been some flirting away with seniors to get promoted in engineering.

    Conseils à la direction

Recognize actual experts in a field for promotions, not just someone who sucks up all the time

    Avantages

Depending upon position, pay is good but medical benefits are becoming costlier. The benefits are decent and available.

    Inconvénients

Jobs are no longer located near the city you reside in. Commuting at least 40 minutes or more is required. Other modes of transportation not available or convenient. Wear on your vehicle and on you.

    Avantages

Management walks the talk. Safety, customer service, community engagement. They prioritize appropriately. A financially strong company in an industry which will not be experiencing significant disruption for at least a decade.

    Inconvénients

Culture is rigid and hierarchal. Bureaucracy reigns and employees are subject to many federal requirements. Failure to execute at a consistent high level can bring severe monetary penalties including loss of bonus and cost-of-living raises.

Do what you're told, when you're told, and do it perfectly and you will succeed here.

    Conseils à la direction

    No advice.

    Avantages

    work-life balance, bonus, medical, pension

    Inconvénients

The company is poorly managed and it only does well financially because the public service commission doesn't question anything. Most projects go far over budget and fail. However, this does not matter because it goes back to the rate payers anyways.

IT Dept is a complete a joke. As a manager I needed reports and data to make some basic decisions but IT said it would take too much money or the request was too difficult. Most of the IT employees are actually smart, but extremely poorly managed. The CTO has no experience in IT so that might be why.

Also, it is very difficult to get promoted. I felt bad for many analysts and specialists that have zero career growth. Truly, the best way to get promoted is to suck up and be a right wing conservative.

Most managers there were full of themselves as if what they were doing mattered. They could seriously cut 70% of the managers and the company would operate the same, if not better.

    Conseils à la direction

Foster younger talent and cut some the fat. You know 20% of the staff simply puts of barriers and creates more work for others. Become an agile company and stop operating as if it were the 80's. It is only a matter of time before the public service commission cuts the endless capital spending. Also, before you know it renewable will reach the point of parity.........and then customer choice will come a long.

Please stop with the politics and start hiring managers and directors that are actually qualified.
