J'ai travaillé chez University of British Columbia à temps partiel (Plus d'un an)

    Avantages

    - Work right on campus, super convenient to come to work right after classes.
    - Great pay for entry-level positions. Flexible schedules.
    - Friendly and supportive staff. Guidance and training throughout my work span. Super student-friendly environment.
    - Apply what you've learned to work! Great on resume.
    - Build network and connect with great people; staff and fellow student co-workers are all very smart, hardworking, kind and fun to be with.
    - Perks of exploring the amazing collections from the libraries. I enjoyed especially the old books that dated back to as far as 500 years ago!
    - Sense of accomplishment and giving back to the community. I knew that I was contributing to meaning projects that will benefit current and future students, teachers and the community.

    Inconvénients

Despite all the pros, getting a Work Learn position can be very competitive. I've been applying to Work Learn jobs ever since year 1 yet never heard anything back until my 4th year. I was only accepted finally due to an inner reference (which I highly appreciated for). Preferences are given to international students (though I understand they may need financial support more desperately than domestic students). It's hard to get accepted if you just apply on your own, at least in my case.

    Conseils à la direction

Create more job opportunities for domestic students as well.

J'ai travaillé chez University of British Columbia en contrat permanent (Plus d'un an)

    Avantages

    Fair pay and hours
Good opportunity to develop and advance career
    Decent workplace culture

    Inconvénients

    Poor management
    Lack of in job training
Unaccountable, not financially responsible as an institution

    Conseils à la direction

In my time here people have been hired with the task of one project. Reevaluate your people and procedures so that people are cross tasked and not simply hired for one project that does not require full time work. There are countless inefficiencies and poor uses of finances due to unorganized and political management. The purpose of the University is to provide high quality education at an affordable cost. You have forgotten both those concepts.
