    Avantages

High salary Great perks Great remote work policy/support Phenomenal culture (volunteer time, progressive attitude, supportive of minorities, etc)

    Inconvénients

Canadian salaries lag US employees significantly Some roles might have a ceiling if not willing to travel a lot or move to HQ

Je travaille chez Salesforce à temps plein depuis plus de 5 ans

    Avantages

Decent pay, RRSP matching, stock options, great colleagues. 4 weeks of vacation only after 2 years of employment and 5 weeks after 5 years.

    Inconvénients

Frequent changes of priorities, legacy work with outdated technologies. Hard to move up a career ladder, but that is caused by the seniority of the peers.

    Conseils à la direction

Spend more money on trainings and allow people to choose projects that are more interesting to them.

    J'ai travaillé chez Salesforce à

    Avantages

    - Great place to work in general - V2MOM is an excellent way to align the company's goals - great benefits including paid time off to volunteer, RRSP matching, generous paid time off, etc - depending on what project you're on, you get to work with modern technologies - excellent technical team

    Inconvénients

    - In some cases management has little interest in the careers of those below them - There doesn't seem to be much interest in hiring less experienced people (including co-ops) - Acquisitions need to be integrated in a faster manner, and don't let them think they will keep their own branding and processes for long - Because the company is so huge, you tend not to know what is going on in the rest of the organization

    Conseils à la direction

    - Take more interest in people's career paths and help them achieve their personal goals - Hire people with different levels of experience and promote from within more - Do a better job integrating acquisitions

Je travaille chez Salesforce à temps plein depuis plus d'un an

    Avantages

Good opportunities in career development, engineers are rewarded on merit, paid volunteer time, managers tend to respect the opinions of engineering, highly competitive salary and benefits. V2MOM system sounds like kool-aid at first but it actually works in aligning the goals of the company.

    Inconvénients

Release cadence of Core (3 times a year) is forced on the rest of the company even if it doesn't make sense for the product you're on. Forced to dogfood our own internal project management software (GUS) which only maintained by a very small team. Open headcount is distributed blindly to projects that are stack-ranked in priority and there's not much to go around after the top 2 or 3 start hiring.

    Conseils à la direction

Don't be so cheap when managers ask for more headcount. Engineering needs talent to be innovative!

J'ai travaillé chez Salesforce à temps plein plus de 5 ans

    Avantages

The company was once technologically disruptive. They are currently stable, growing and profitable. Most of the people are good. The salaries are some of the highest, and benefits extremely generous. Each employee is allow to volunteer 6 days per year with pay (though it can be hard to schedule VTO).

    Inconvénients

Technically, the company is lackluster, yet has drunk it's own kool-aid, believing itself to be innovative. User interface is implemented with a proprietary framework (Aura) that is universally criticized by its users as inferior to Aspect and other industry standards, but is ferociously defended by company insiders. Similarly, storage is done via a proprietary layer atop a small number of massive Oracle databases. This...

    Conseils à la direction

Take a long hard look at technology and products and ask yourself whether you are truly excellent, or good, or even average. If you said yes, you are in denial. Make the changes necessary so that coming to Salesforce doesn't mean that you are forced to let your technical skills rot. Get rid of the bureaucrats in middle management. Take a careful look at your VPs. Some of them are intimidating developers and blocking movement...

    Avantages

Great work environment in terms of office, technology and ergonomics.

    Inconvénients

Horrible team building and platform for dealing with employee concerns. Everything was too automated even down to the human resources. Management is not always on site, often times the team manager can be in a different country which is frustrating.

Je travaille chez Salesforce à temps plein depuis moins d'un an

    Avantages

Salesforce is a true 'do-ocracy', with an emphasis on delivering results. Tons of challenges and the opportunity to work with many truly smart people on difficult problems. Great working environment, good benefits.

    Inconvénients

In some ways, the advantages are also its disadvantages - because of the 'do-ocracy' style, you can't rely on rank or title to have influence, especially when it comes to getting things done across silos. You not only have to have the best ideas, but you need to communicate them effectively in order to be successful. This can be difficult for people who rely on rank rather than indirect influence.

    Conseils à la direction

Salesforce has a real mix of startup and big-enterprise cultures, can sometimes seem a bit schizophrenic. In my opinion, having a bit more of a focus on old-school enterprise standards and processes can make things run a lot more smoother and predictably, and if done properly, without impacting the existing culture.

    Avantages

The people and the company culture is great. Good compensation and benefits, and lots of opportunities to contribute back to society through volunteering. Management all the way from your direct superior to the CEO seems to have very good intentions, and truly care about the happiness and career growth of the employees.

    Inconvénients

There are archaic technologies and unnecessary processes that kill engineering productivity. There is active work going on that are improving these issues, but it's a slow and painful process.

    Conseils à la direction

Seriously consider investing in a full fledged company initiative to improve engineering productivity. Just having a small team of people trying to improve the technology and processes will cause you to lose a lot of bright people to other more agile companies.

    Avantages

Great pay, good people. Successful company. Very flexible. Very open culture with great internal communications system. Not averse to conflict, but communication is respectful. Willing to spend money when its needed. Truly agile, releasing every four months. Invest heavily in test automation.

    Inconvénients

Line managers follow archaic software development practices. Little unit testing, test driven development and paired programming. Many mediocre developers churn out reams of untested, buggy, bloated code, adding to old, complex, monolithic code base. Very slow and buggy build and test automation system makes development incredibly slow and painful. Senior people accept the status quo. Hiring process is slow and unreliable....

    Conseils à la direction

Technical leaders need to drive change and improvement. Get rid of the ineffectual quality engineering team, and stop allowing code to be released with known test failures. Integrate developers and testers in a single organization. Remove managers and old timers who refuse to change. Continue to invest in modularizing, modernizing and speeding up the development environment. Break down the silos between user design, development...
