    Avantages

    Flexibility, minimal supervision as long as work is done Large project that allows great work on many aspect and challenge

    Inconvénients

    Minimal advancement opportunity for non-Italian Heavy procedure that doesn't work in Canada Disorganized and poor training

    Invest more on local employees. Don't be cheap on the local employees who can actually get the work done, don't close the door, and use english.

    Avantages

    Great company for oil sector, every body hard working, capable to perform any challenging project in due time. Resourceful, excellent wages and may learn a lot from job training. Safety on top of every step. Respect multinational employees.

    Inconvénients

    Higher management and middle management are not capable enough to merge with the procedures of North American business. Impatience practice and hire and fire attitude is a serious negative practice with the middle management of Italian staff.

    Despite of learning in the beginning in Canada the company's top management and middle management never been reshuffle much to improve the business.

    Avantages

    - Strong preference to promote from within. - Mid-management was always very clear/firm on what was to be done. - Excellent support from colleagues; learned a lot by swallowing my pride and asking questions.

    Inconvénients

    - Preference to promote from within lead to a lot of lackluster performers in key project positions. - Senior management was rarely around, marching orders were always unclear. - It doesn't matter what your role/title, if you aren't an Italian Expat, your professional opinion isn't worth much.

    The more local talent, the better. Strong opportunity to build a small turnkey firm and grow from there, rather than trying to become a major player (locally) overnight.

    Avantages

    Management is good but mostly Italians. They talk in the Italian language even in the meeting. I had a good experience working for Saipem Canada and lots of opportunity to success throughout my four years of work there.

    Inconvénients

    Management is not transparent to local employees. Sometimes local employee feels they are not part of the management.

    Avantages

    Despite all the terrible Italian expatriate managers, there were still some great people that worked there. Technically, the company is pretty good in its design and execution (albeit not profitable). You will learn a lot about working in an International company, and meeting people from all different cultures.

    Inconvénients

    The Saipem management style is to treat everyone around you poorly, promote and reward based on social connections (not competence), take no responsibility for your actions, and blame HR when things go wrong. The numerous expatriates are arrogant and incompetent--which is rather ironic considering that Saipem hasn't turned a profit on any projects in years. The company will most likely leave Canada in a few months. If...

    Avantages

    Good salary, good opportunities to learn and grow, exposure to megaprojects, exposure to multinational work culture, identifies your true potential and value and appreciate your abilities and contributions as per tier 2 below.

    Inconvénients

    There are two tiers in company: (1) Italians on top of pyramid like kings (2) Everyone else is slave. Rules are different for both tiers. An Italian will always be your boss even if they don't know anything....just because they are Italian. They take credit for everything good and blame slaves...

    While we were working they had plenty of overtime, no limit to work money was good, it should be one of the reason of several incidents

    Inconvénients

    If you aren't Italian you are out of the circle, no high positions for you, they have lot of experience but they brought to Canada the worse management team their policies are obsolete their quality program is a joke their understanding of the Canadians standard is zero and their opportunities to grow below zero... They want to control and micromanagement everything again is...

    Make a real multicultural company not just an Italian controlled company this is not Italy this is real multicultural country update your policies make everyone equal not just in paper and get manager with technical knowledge, also get manager able to speak and write in English ....

    In case you don't find job anywhere else in EPC business in Canada, then consider Saipem as an option!!!

    Inconvénients

    Low respect at work, Old style of management, Arrogant expats, screaming and yelling at people, inexperienced young Italian managers, Non-Italians are always second handed.

    Avantages

    Good pay, decent benefits, nice diversity.

    Inconvénients

    Pretty much everything else. Lackluster management, too many ex-patriot employees, no upward mobility (unless you're Italian), poor business development, entitled executive class, little to no training, bad social environment.

    Send the ex-pats home, and hire some local management. Invest in your employees, it will pay off. Realize that working in Canada is not the same as working in a 3rd world country. Spend some money on team building now and then. Our company name is reviled in Alberta due to our inability to adjust to local standards and practices.

    Good place to start off your career and learn dirty politics

    Inconvénients

    If you are not Italian no matter how hard you try, you won’t be one of them. You will constantly feel discriminated based on your skin color. From my experience, if you are not Italian no matter you are French, brown, black or Asian they treat you like garbage No team work. You would be stranded without any help from others... and...

    Culture needs to get change and managers needs to connect with their employees so the communication gap is filled. Management needs to treat everyone equally and not based on if they are Italian or not
