    Er, that's about it

    Bullying
    Lack of opportunities
    Poor management
    Intimidation
    Bullying
    Advertising a person's job whilst they are still there and not telling them.
    Constant threats about losing your job.
    Pay is laughable.
    Crappy support payments and unrealistic expectations.
    Dull, dull, dull.
    Permanent staff treated very badly compared to contractors.
    Contractors have been shafted too.
    Massive turnover of staff.
    Forcing older staff out of the company.
    Unable to retain the new recruits.
    Give holiday, but expect you to just drop it for no compensation if they need you in.
    Unable to speak freely or criticise the regime - only very positive comments are allowed.
    HR are pathetic and seem to encourage the management's terrible behaviour, rather than trying to stop it.
    IT/RI Tech at River Island is Hell - morale is low, management are dictatorial and everyone is frightened.
    Please don't join this terrible company.

    Open your eyes and spend some time on the shop floor.
    Listen to your leavers' interviews and act on them
    Take a very close look at your senior management - you have some very bad apples.
    Take the bullying problems you have at your company seriously.
    Be aware you are pushing some people to breaking point/breakdowns because of the bullying and intimidation.

    Avantages

    I work with a small team of around 20 people.
    Collectively everyone is so hard working so the work load does not just fall on one person.
    Amazing staff discount.

    Inconvénients

    The pay. Minimum wage only.
    Considering it is a company which turns over billions they should atleast give staff a pay rise.

    Keep all the bitchiness out and everyone will be happy.

    Staff discount and uniform allowance
    Great clothes and latest technology to use on the floor to help customers
    Some nice people to work with
    Pretty good pay

    Inconvénients

    Management speak to you however they want and don’t genuinely care about there staff at all, very rude sometimes
    In a larger store being on one section like fitting rooms all the time..

    Avantages

    Leadership team continue to take feedback on board and increase their presence in the business. High accountability and flexibility in my particular area.

    Inconvénients

    Unclear progression path and employees are not necessarily given opportunities based on their strengths. A lot of work to be done around transparency of information, company vision and the part employees have to play within the bigger picture - this is especially poor at store level. Decision making and the speed at which new initiatives are launched is slow.

    The potential is there to improve upon these issues, however this needs to start from the CEO whose presence is not felt enough and when it is, comes across as though he lacks passion for the brand and the focus is solely on profit. A few tips on charisma from Richard Branson wouldn't go amiss.

    Avantages

    They know what they are doing!
    As a retailer there isn’t many that could do it better. Very organised and processed driven. Fast paced and they train you well on all aspects, including transferable skills e.g. Health & Safety and Employment Law. Internal progression is encouraged and salaries at Store Manager level are relatively good.

    Inconvénients

    Pressure, pressure and more pressure. They expect a lot for their money.
    Unfortunately by the recent reviews it doesn’t seem like senior management have listened and the middle management are still ruling by fear.

    Remember that your nothing without your people! Try and find a way for your teams to have a voice - and the confidence that they can be truly honest with their feedback. The middle management will tell you what you want to hear. Give your teams a platform to be able to tell you what it is really like out there.
    They work really, really hard and sometimes (well a lot of the time), you expect just far too much. There are some very talented people out there, but if they’re too scared to speak up or have their spirits broken by overbearing middle management, how will they ever shine.
