Je travaille chez Rackspace à plein temps (Moins d'un an)

    Avantages

Big company with lots of amazing people, small perks, decent on-boarding process, and opportunity to move around between groups.

Each group tends to have a slightly different culture. Mine is phenomenal, and I feel like I'm surrounded by a bunch of close friends. We're able to agree and disagree openly, which is fantastic for engineering staff that sometimes needs to make difficult decisions quickly.

The CEO is a call-it-like-I-see-it kind of guy. While this might be harsh or a shock for some people, I would always rather have an honest a difficult conversation than be left in the dark or not given details I need to make decisions.

The company's core values, as lame as that might sound, are solid. It's not uncommon for a company to choose buzzwords as their values, but what's rare is to see a company that actually takes the time to define what each core value means to the organization and how employees are expected to uphold them at all times.

    Inconvénients

Tasks and team objectives can move quickly, and some people just can't handle the context switch. This isn't a "con" for everyone, but if you want to work in a static environment from 9am to 5pm, you probably won't enjoy Rackspace.

Also, if you're a minimum effort kind of person, you'll probably feel very out of place in the company. Everyone I've met works as thought they ran the company, and they take pride in giving Rackspace a good name. If you're not looking to do the same, you'll feel very left out.

    Conseils à la direction

Encourage teams to find a culture and character of their own, but push them to demonstrate the core values.

J'ai travaillé chez Rackspace en Contrat Permanent (Pendant plus de 5 ans)

    Avantages

Most Rackers are truly wonderful people who are smart and engaging to work with. Going to work was always fun when you were surrounded by great people. Benefits were good - especially the time off and work-from-home flexibility.

    Inconvénients

Leadership is going through a major shake-up and new leaders don't seem to care as much about Rackers. It's completely understandable that a company at this stage has to make tough decisions, but they can still be made with heart and conviction rather than coldness. Leaders care more about how to get to the bottom line faster rather than rewarding hard workers or attempting to retain and grow talent.

J'ai travaillé chez Rackspace en Contrat Permanent (Plus d'un an)

    Avantages

Good salary/comp plan with comprehensive benefits package.

    Inconvénients

Lack of diversity at the castle. A walk through the front door you will be greeted with a vibrancy of color, that would be the diversity of free flowing flags from the rafters, but what you won't witness, is a sea of people of color. The faces that appear are more analogous to a White House summer intern photo op. Very homogeneous. Diversity as a commitment and focus for employees and suppliers is well written, ill intended and disingenuous in action. Certainly not a clarion call to real action. Looks good in print, but in reality, a de minimis afterthought. As a person of color, Rackspace was a place where I felt tolerated, but not necessarily celebrated.

    Conseils à la direction

Lower the drawbridge to the castle and make a deliberative effort to hire more diverse people of color. Saying you can't find them is the easy way out. They're out there and ready, find them in their orbit, in the spaces they occupy. Don't allow talent to get lost in the surrounding moat. Don't make "DIVERSITY " a feel good word. Instead close your two "ii's" and feel the word. Shelve your consonants (dvrst) and what remains is your "Y" - Your "Why" is because it's the moral thing to do and the more diversity , the more it positively impacts the bottom line. It's a way to build E Q U I T Y in people and in the organization. The U and I in equity is how we all can win. Add diversity and inclusion as part of your overall corporate strategy with target specific hiring and promotional goals at ALL levels of the organization. Don't be afraid of diversity. Embrace It! The sun is still warm in the shade.

J'ai travaillé chez Rackspace en Contrat Permanent (Plus d'un an)

    Avantages

Good health insurance. High employee retention. Rackspace would be a good place to carve out a long term career path with minimal emotional commitment. "Base pay plus bonus" compensation is a pro and a con.

    Inconvénients

Old world (ops-heavy) IT mentality. Dinosaur tech with no clear upgrade paths. Poor business sense among all levels of leadership. Systemic lack of respect for customers' pain.

    Conseils à la direction

Keep up more with market trends or you'll quickly be left behind. Place more value on attracting and keeping thought leaders.
