J'ai travaillé chez Oliver Wyman à temps plein plus d'un an

    Avantages

Great networking and cultural enforcement activities (e.g. happy hour every Friday, offsites for various practice areas) Rapid promotion provides strong incentive to perform

    Inconvénients

Outside of risk management, content gets a bit thin as most partners lack the appropriate background Going into unchartered waters due to focus on relationship based selling versus thought leadership Hours can be long though that comes with the territory. In line with most management consulting firms when it comes to workload.

    Conseils à la direction

Slow and steady wins the game while retaining a strong perspective on quality

Je travaille chez Oliver Wyman à temps plein depuis plus de 3 ans

    Avantages

    - Strong expertise and tier 1 brand name in Financial Services - Flat hierarchy, people are great fun to hang out with, not just work with - Global staffing opportunities

    Inconvénients

    - Transitioning from small to big firm - processes and infrastructure often in flux - Inconsistent culture between large hubs (strong community, more emphasis on work-life balance but more bureaucratic) and smaller offices (very entrepreneurial, but like the "wild west")

    Conseils à la direction

    - more effort needed to bring culture across offices in line

    Avantages

Oliver Wyman provides a faster track to partnership than competitors. Partially this is achieved through faster specialization. No MBA is required for advancement (though they are sponsored if you want one). The extra time in the industry is viewed as more beneficial than the MBA. The culture is very meritocratic, entrepreneurial and team-oriented with almost no work-place politics to deal with.

    Inconvénients

If you're not in consulting for the long-haul, it offers a less-clear "value proposition." The brand name isn't as good as competing firms, which may be important for your next career (though I hope this will slowly change). The lack of emphasis on an MBA may hinder your future career choices outside Oliver Wyman unless you make obtaining one a personal priority.

    Conseils à la direction

Stay true to the founding principles of the firm (Oliver, Wyman and Company). Don't make OW into Bain, McKinsey, and BCG...force them to be more like us.

    Avantages

Entrepreneurial environment that encourages people to be proactive and take responsibility Strong comraderie between colleagues Non-hierarchical organisation - access to senior management is good

    Inconvénients

Does not have the same level of infrastructure of the other more established consulting firms which doesn't always support consultant development Work lifestyle is demanding Brand name does not equate to high profile-impact project work

    Conseils à la direction

Focus on projects that address core value/strategic issues of clients More formalised training programs to address specific skill sets to complement on the job training

Je travaille chez Oliver Wyman à

    Avantages

    - Very informal / casual atmosphere - Partners share offices and all non-partner titles are "unofficial" - Bright, friendly colleagues - If you want it, opportunity for near limitless travel - Great expense policy means you can live well while travelling - Work is interesting & becoming moreso as build relations at higher levels of the company. Lots more true "strategy" work - Good brand name within FS. We... regularly win business away from Mckinsey & Bain in the top tier clients.

    Dérouler

    Inconvénients

    - Time to partner is increasing (last year's promotes all ~9 years experience). Compensation at partner level is higher than other firms, but lower for non-partners. You will be underpaid relative to your peers at all levels until partner. Hence if you do not intend to become partner (and there are no promotions to track your progress to partner), financially it makes less sense. - Very "eat what you kill"... approach to partnership. Must bring new new clients and revenue to be considered. - Travel is constant - assume 4 days a week. Potentially three weeks at a time if further away. Difficult to balance with a home life. - Poor communication from management and general sense of distrust between management and consultants (although consultants & partners generally get on very well) - Note: All these comments are for Oliver Wyman FS - there is little / no interaction with the other OW businesses.

    Conseils à la direction

Speak to your staff more. Fix the issues with compensation and work life balance. Work out a way to make it a viable long term career

    Avantages

culture is great, partners are very friendly, consultants are smart, and work is intellectually challenging. Global mobility is offered to consultants

    Inconvénients

brand name is weak outside F S and company is fairly young hence senior leadership is not as experienced with grey hair as you would want

    Conseils à la direction

focus on branding aggressively more broadly, try to fix the grow from within trade off with rapid growth of the overall firm
