    Avantages

Great team work culture, fun events and a leadership team that's really interested in its people. Great training and development.

    Inconvénients

Long hours and does not pay as much as other consultancies for more senior role. Salaries are shown as packages which can be difficult to interpret.

Je travaille chez Newton Europe à plein temps

    Avantages

Personal develoment- this is always a focus on every project and the work is challenging.

Transparency and openness - compared to other companies of this size, Newton is unusually open with why decisions are made, and is good at seeking out and responding to feedback.

The vast majority of people are fun and importantly care about each other- all the way from consultant to back office to director.

    Inconvénients

Lack of diversity - good efforts are being made to improve this in recruitment. However once within the company, people who fit a certain personality mould tend to be celebrated more than others, and there is a subtle pressure to act / think in that mould.

    Conseils à la direction

Please continue focusing on diversity even after people have joined the company- we will be a poorer place if we don't act on this and end up with talented people finding other places to work.

    Avantages

Variety and change as you do many projects across different sectors; challenging projects in a good way - always being stretched that little bit; morally rewarding work with public sector organisations making a real difference to the end users; good rewards package and great opportunities to develop professionally; strong focus on the social side of the company with lots of events to bring employees together; work expenses are all covered

    Inconvénients

Working away from home during the week; can be quite tough with longer hours when projects get busy

Je travaille chez Newton Europe à plein temps (Plus d'un an)

    Avantages

Some of the smartest people I've ever met. The work is very fast-paced, and you never feel inside your comfort zone; you're always being pushed and are delivering very relevant and exciting change to the clients.

The culture is amazing, everyone is very friendly and there is always something going on on the fun side. Very work hard, play hard

    Inconvénients

You're away from home from Monday morning until Friday evening; the work is intense and can be quite draining at times.
    Not very diverse

    Avantages

    We love Newton.

Newton gives you access to world-beating clients and their board-level issues, in more depth than most direct employees would ever see. You'll be expected to assess, design and - most importantly - deliver improvements equivalent to millions of pounds on the bottom-line of FTSE100 businesses, and all within a few months of joining. Whether it's building warships, banking, producing food or running an operating theatre you'll be able to get stuck in and help our clients deliver what they do best, better.

At Newton you'll be given independence and autonomy as soon as you want it, but with a strong support network around you all the way.

    Inconvénients

Make sure you know what to expect. Newton isn't like most consultancies - in that you will never work a weekend and there's a healthy respect for the work/life balance - but it is still hard work in the week. It's definitely not a 9 to 5 and won't suit you if that's what you're after. Late nights are very rare but expected when required, and you'll be away from home four nights a week.

If you're joining as an Experienced Hire, make sure you speak with your recruiter about the Induction and Business Consultant roles to make sure you understand the role in full. Working at Newton is very different and very challenging, so you'll be expected to work in what's effectively a holding role for 12-18 months. This doesn't affect your benefits, but gives you the opportunity to demonstrate your capability at each level before you take on your hired role. It can be surprising for some Experienced Hires that you'll learn the business from the ground up just like a new Graduate would, so do make sure you ask and familiarise yourself first.

J'ai travaillé chez Newton Europe en Contrat Permanent (Plus d'un an)

    Avantages

    - great experience embedded with the clients
    - All colleagues are amazing, bright, intelligent, and nice
    - Company is transparent with their intentions for the business
    - You will develop quickly with feedback from peers, line manager, and a personal development manager

    Inconvénients

    - Lifestyle isn't for everyone. You'll be gone Monday through Friday. But absolutely no work after 6 pm on Friday. They take that seriously. Unfortunately, that does mean late nights through the week.
    - Newton throws a good party, can get a bit wild at times
    - feedback is blunt. Sometimes you'll get conflicting feedback from multiple people. Learning to push back in a non-defensive constructive way is an important skill
    - your promotion will depend on the impression you give to the rest of the company. This means that the 95% that don't work with you have a large say in your growth

    Conseils à la direction

    Enjoyed my experience!

J'ai travaillé chez Newton Europe (Pendant plus de 3 ans)

    Avantages

The culture is amazing. Everyone is really, really bright and really passionate about Newton, their clients and their projects. Lots of people are friends out of work and as mentioned many times here, it's a very 'work-hard-play-hard' mindset, so it's a great place to both enjoy work and socialise. There are lots of social events which back this up, from fortnightly company get-togethers, activity days, summer and Christmas parties to a ski trip and four other weekends away, which are at least part company sponsored.

The projects are varied, interesting, worthwhile and really make use of your brain. The focus on implementation of work means you actually get to see the results of the work you have done and see the lives of the customers, patients or staff change as a result of the work being done, which can be really rewarding. The depth of operational understanding you end up getting on projects (often you end up knowing more about how part of a company works than someone who has worked there for decades) and improvement skillset is also a rare skill in the wider consulting world, so is really valued by both other consultancies and industry.

The personal development and feedback culture is really good at making sure you get rapid development, particularly earlier on in your career. You're constantly stretched and will be managing client relationships and more junior colleagues much earlier in your career than at other consultancies. Barring a small amount of needing to be operating consistently for a period of time (which they would benefit from being more open about), there is the closest thing I have seen to a meritocracy - you will be promoted when you are ready for the next step, without needing to wait for a position to become available.

There is a lot of support available. You'll be given a development manager who supports your longer term development, your line manager and a more informal mentor, but outside of that it's easy to build a peer network from your induction and previous project teams and you are able (and expected) to call up and ask anyone advice about anything.

There isn't really a 'face-time' culture around hours. Typically you'd work 8-6 on a client site Monday to Friday, with maybe a couple of hours work in the evening a couple of nights a week. There's no weekend work, but you are away during the week.

    Inconvénients

It can be hard work. Some projects get into bad habits of working long hours which can be unsustainable and usually takes a little time to be recognised and fixed, but even if you're not working long hours, it can get really intense and pressured.

There is a definite 'Newton shape'. If you don't quite fit that, you have to work hard to get your other strengths valued. Some manage this more successfully than others.

It can feel like a cult. Not necessarily an entirely bad thing, as you end up making friends with colleagues, but being away from home Monday to Friday, together with up to 6 weekends a year with work people, means it is very easy for it to crowd out your other social circles and relationships unless you make a concerted effort to stop that from happening.

Whilst the development and feedback culture is great, lots can depend on who your current line manager is, how similar they are to you and their emotional intelligence in delivering feedback and helping you develop areas of improvement. Feedback and development delivered in the wrong way can, and does, affect consultants' self confidence when the overwhelming vibe is that everyone is doing amazingly well.

    Conseils à la direction

Make sure the learnings from the recent dip in the pipeline are actually learnt so the good recovery you've made in the last few months will sustain and not be temporary.
Continue looking after the best bits about Newton - the culture, the excellent people, the unrivalled delivery focus. It's a credit to you how much these have been preserved with the size of company you are at now and are the things which are prized and recognised by both your employees and your competitors.

Find a way to value and promote a more open, honest culture at every level. It's been eroded in recent years as the gap between the leadership and the teams on the ground has widened. Find forums to get people talking across that gap, not just on review nights over a drink. Structure, make time for and encourage peer reviews at every level, not just at EPRs.

Be more open to using people's strengths to support a project. Not everyone needs to be good at everything to add an enormous amount of value to a team and asking people to do so is good for neither them nor the team and won't get the best outcome for the client.

Try to lose the attitude that some things are just the way they are and there is nothing you can do about it. This is holding you back in some of the areas that people have mentioned as cons - the female / diversity issues, retention of leads / principals, the EQ of managers and a perceived lack of positive feedback.

Je travaille chez Newton Europe à plein temps (Moins d'un an)

    Avantages

Newton is a challenging and exciting place to work. From day one you will be thrown into a project that will stretch and challenge you. Development is a huge focus within the company and I've had more feedback in the last few months than I did from years in other companies.

Each and every project that you work on will be different from the last and there are always new skills to be gained. A huge plus is the sheer variety of work that Newton undertakes, from healthcare to transport and the private sector, you are able to experience huge variety in your work. No two days will be the same which is a huge plus.

    Inconvénients

You need to be prepared to spend your entire week away from home, from 6am Monday through till 6pm on Friday you will be out of the house and away from your friends/family. This is much more manageable when you are young but as your priorities shift this might be more of an issue. That being said, you wont ever work on weekends.

There is also a noticeable lack of diversity within the company which could do with being addressed.

    Conseils à la direction

Keep the fantastic culture and ethos of the company, it's what makes it a truly different and exceptional place to work.
