Je travaille chez Mailchimp à temps plein depuis plus de 5 ans

    Avantages

Mailchimp is a special place to work. It’s hard to describe how supportive others are at this company. I’ve never needed help and not found someone eager and willing. The product is solid, and there is a big opportunity for company growth. The company is profitable and that helps in a lot of ways. I’ve been at companies who had financial issues, and it’s refreshing to not feel that crunch here right now. I’ve seen more...

    Inconvénients

The company has been hiring a lot of people every year, expanding office locations, and changing how we work. This makes it harder than it needs to be to get stuff done sometimes because too many people need to be involved in decisions. Leadership in certain departments seem to have a little bit of an agenda that doesn’t always line up with the rest of the company. We don’t always “march to the same drum beat” so to...

    Conseils à la direction

I love Mailchimp and thank the management team for building such a great company. If I had to give any advice, it would be that Mailchimp is a big company now, so some of the ways of leading that worked when we were smaller don’t work anymore. Embrace and trust the folks closest to the work to help figure out how to work better. Also, try to get more aligned on company goals as a senior leader team. It’s more obvious...

    Avantages

    - Total compensation package is extremely generous. I'm so thankful for the unexpected bonuses, especially the 401k bonus we've received. My 65 yr old self is dancing! - Gives back to the community in meaningful ways - Company cares about hiring for diversity - Opportunities for growth and the ability to pave your own path if you are assertive - Culture where feedback is encouraged

    Inconvénients

    - Conflict-averse culture. People are scared of hurting each other's feelings. This gets in the way of sharing valuable feedback and making tough decisions. - No hiring structure at all. They are hiring like crazy with no formal plan. It creates problems because so often new people are training newer people. - So overly focused on putting people first that they hold onto toxic employees far longer than they should....

    Conseils à la direction

Don't shy away from having tough conversations. Bending over backwards to make every person feel warm and fuzzy gets in the way of good business. There are people knocking down the door to work here, so there is no need to coddle the team. Be clear in your expectations and hold people accountable.

    Avantages

Great product, good vision, decent benefits

    Inconvénients

Leaders are rewarded for very bad behavior, experience is NOT valued. There is a very clear bias towards executives and it doesn't matter how they treat people. People of color must jump through tremendous hoops to even be considered for promotion, hence there maybe 1 or 2 in the senior leadership ranks.

    Conseils à la direction

Stop rewarding people with no experience and/or people who don't care about people.

    Avantages

The company has great culture, and really fosters a sense of community. It's a good work environment, and they really try to do well by their employees. Everyone is very caring, and very considerate.

    Inconvénients

There's a lack of standardization among management at all levels that means that your experience may vary greatly depending on the specific team you're on. Further, while everyone is genuine and truly means well (in my experience), the company is quickly becoming more "corporate" and isn't handling it super well.

    Inconvénients

Design Leadership is all white males. Design and Marketing Leadership doesn’t support or care about people below Director level and blame them for everything. Minorities are often overlooked or not supported by leadership on both teams. I’ve seen mostly POC put in performance improvement plans by white leadership. These leaders don’t take responsibility for their part in their employees struggles and performance. Teams...

    Avantages

I have worked for several different companies in Atlanta and so far, Mailchimp is the best out of all of them. The benefits are amazing, the company cares so much about its employees and the work is fun and interesting. Plus, I get to work when I am at work and don't take my job home with me at the end of the day which is awesome.

    Inconvénients

The company continues to grow and have some growing pains to figure out because of that but people seem dedicated to figuring it out and helping the company continue to evolve. Growth is a good problem to have!

    Avantages

Benefits are nice. co-workers are creative and thoughtful and kind. Pay commiserate with Atlanta in general. But far from Silicon Valley numbers even factoring in cost of living. Good work/life balance. WFH policy is nice (since Atlanta traffic is not fun). Bonuses are nice - see below though. Lots of fun side-projects happening all the time.

    Inconvénients

Projects get sidelined or changed without notice. Communication isn't good at Mailchimp. It is tough to get promoted because leadership prioritizes corporate external hires over internal promotions. Subpar middle management sticks around for way too long. **Lots** of meeting-itis. Sometimes tough to wade through middle-management politics and territorial project jockeying. Bonuses are nice but per-employee revenue is...

    Conseils à la direction

Get back to your roots and be weird again! Experiment more. Focus on building a better team atmosphere to deflate some of the constant passive-aggressive backbiting. Value and seek the opinions of everyone. Require training for management. Focus on customer research, data and experience, and not just selectively to prove a pitch.

    Avantages

Great benefits. Flexibility for WFH. Eager and earnest when it comes to being inclusive, and admits when they miss the mark and work to change.

    Inconvénients

Leadership doesn't have checks and balances, so things get decided without a full understanding of what it means for those working on it. Promotions are sometimes based on skill and performance, but others can seem solely based on relationships. Not all teams have defined steps for moving up the ladder while others do.

    Conseils à la direction

Make sure the Directors, Senior Directors, and up are Mailchimp material. Don't just bring in the folks that will push things to market (that leads to exhausted and upset employees).
