J'ai travaillé chez F5 Networks à temps plein plus de 5 ans

    Avantages

Good culture, benefits, and pay. Reasonable workload.

    Inconvénients

New CEO is not afraid to cut entire teams or offices to make company profitable. Top-down change coming quickly. Bottom-up change rather slow.

J'ai travaillé chez F5 Networks à temps plein plus de 3 ans

    Avantages

Amazing health benefits, progressive intelligent co workers. Lots of high tech toys and technology to learn. Good bonus and incentive plan. Awesome stock options and the stock is worth a lot if you stay two+ years. Lots of cool security tech to learn. Company is moving to a big tower building next to Columbia tower by January, so commute will get better soon.

    Inconvénients

Company is very late the the cloud market and playing catch up. Virtual edition of Big IP was released a few years ago but should be been released 6 years ago during the cloud boom The current Seattle commute sucks if you’re farther south than Renton or farther north than North Gate. Also for NSE 2 role there is no current work from home option. Pay isn’t good for current Seattle housing/rental market if you... want to support a family with 1 earner. Very little openings to advance at the company to tier 3 (engineering). It seems they are choosy on filling those very limited slots. Recently an entire east coast support office (300 employees or so) got laid off. And a new office in Mexico opened, makes sense because cheaper wages... they told us not to worry about our jobs but I’m skeptical. Support policies make it difficult to say no kindly to some very pushy and demanding customers that expect much more than they pay for. Consulting still has huge communication gaps with support, especially for large unsupported super custom setups that are essentially a giant coding project. Yet customers expect to call support and get it fixed free..

    Conseils à la direction

Open up more advancement options for seasoned and qualified candidates. Don’t let skilled support staff get bored and burn out. Set better limits on what customers can call support for, don’t even accept calls or emails once it’s clear a large customized deployment is he problem and this setup never worked before. They need to go directly to consulting every time.

    Avantages

Good benefits Friendly Management Chertsey is a quite place

    Inconvénients

F5 Networks is probably a great company, the Network Support Engineer (NSE) job is just simply bad (a nightmare) as probably every support role in the company. Communication / Team spirit: No communication between NSEs, you are just coming and doing your job from 9 to 6. Your only friend is your phone and at some point you start hating it. You are assigned to a POD but there is no team spirit, your only role is... to take cases and calls all day long. Workload: Handling more than 15+ cases is simply not possible, you can't focus or solve an issue without being constantly disturbed. The job is more about communication than true engineering (you are not here to think). Career perspective: Only stats matter. Your performance is based on statistics and surveys. Management does not care about the content of the cases or the time you spent due to the complexity of a problem. Personal development: You wake up every morning knowing that you will spend the whole day on the phone with "Engineers" from all over the world that do not understand anything about Networking/System Administration. You can easily be stuck during 8 hours on the phone. If you expect an engineering and interesting position, run away!

    Dérouler

    Conseils à la direction

Be closer to your employees to really understand the responsibilities and the pressure that are put on NSE shoulders.
